This is my love post to the q***r community. I’ve never known such freedom until I came out (a long time ago, this isn’t me coming out). In my early twenties I spent so many nights dancing my cares away at the local gay bar, The Back Door in Bloomington, Indiana. In this time of my life I was lucky to be surrounded by so many incredible q***r artists and activists. To this day I’m so inspired by these folks and others I’ve met along the way.

Now I live in Florida which doesn’t have a good rep for q***r inclusion. I just want to let any couples know that while looking for your wedding vendor, you don’t have to settle. If you’re gay, even in Florida there are plenty of wedding vendors who are stoked to work with you, not just willing to.

Reposting cause it is relevant: I know wedding planning and hiring vendors can be so intimidating, so here is what I’d be looking for.
1. That you like the style they’re already showcasing. You don’t want to hire someone for a different style than they typically do, and they’re unable to nail your vision
2. They’re willing to talk on the phone or do a video call. This is important because they will be with you almost all day on your wedding. You want to make sure it’s someone you want at your wedding
3. They are willing to show full wedding galleries or have an extensive gallery. Look…I am not a fan of surprises. Especially in this scenario I believe knowing what you can expect is key.
4. Good reviews! What are people saying who have hired them in the past? If they don’t have good things to say, that’s a huge red flag.
5. I already mentioned personality, but it’s so important I’m saying it twice. Really make sure this is someone you’d like to spend time on your wedding day
6. What are their procedures to save your photos and in case something happens? I personally have all my photos backed up in 4 places until your gallery is delivered.

Also if you’re struggling to find a vendor you’re interested in, ask other vendors you like. If you can’t find a florist you like but you love your photographer, ask who their favorite florists are.

I hope this can help relive some vendor choice insecurity!
