Michael and Emily’s first dance song was Till the Flame Turns Blue by The Paper Kites—and umm, they sure brought it an hour later during this steamy flash session 🔥
To dig deeper into the sweet sentimentality of their day…as part of her wedding gift, Emily gave Michael the vinyl that this same song is found on, At the Roadhouse 🥹 The layers of intentionality intertwined through each moment simply tugged at EVERYONE’S heart strings.
And okkk, because I’m a storyteller by nature, it’s now storytimeee 🫶🏻
At the Roadhouse was my first ever vinyl, and it’s my all time favorite album in general. In fact, I’ve seen The Paper Kites three times over the years…never in the same city 🙈 I first discovered them when a friend invited me to their show in 2019 in LA, which quickly led to me being torn apart by their storytelling abilities…in the best way possible. Several years later, I was looking up their tour dates and was bummed to see they weren’t coming to San Diego. Well, no probbb for this lil wanderer, cause I was headed to Washington that summer for photo work. I totally switched around the dates of my work trip so I could catch the show 😂 One of my besties tagged along on a road trip in my 2006 Toyota Camry, Carl (defff had to repair him a bit before hitting the road, but he made it through with only the minor hiccup of the trunk breaking mid trip 😅). We camped near a river in Southern Oregon, discovered jasmine matcha in Portland, listened to endless podcasts and music, had deep heart to hearts, and stayed in a tiny home in the woods of Washington. Then last year, I got to share the experience of attending their San Diego show with another one of my besties/roomies…after a year of us blasting The Sweet Sound of You, which was our favorite song until Black and Thunder came out ;) she also happened to be E+M’s videographer! Next up is Charlotte in September! Anyone gonna be there??
Sooo, I’m high key OBSESSED with all my clients/friends + the natural chemistry we have. The fact that this album was laced into this special day made it all the more tender for me as a storyteller…and, I’m just so grateful for all you wonderful humans who trust me with your day!
