As a mother…I’m super partial to documenting motherhood. There are so many phases in it. We are used to our children going through the changes and stages but I feel like as moms, we do the same alongside them. I’ve been looking back in my phone these past few days at photos and videos of when my boys were babies and I swear there are moments I can close my eyes and feel. There are also those moments where I feel like I’m peeking into someone else’s life it feels so distant. I think this is not only why I’m so passionate about making sure we prioritize capturing our family in photos but also why I try my best to offer sessions that are more than just a ‘stand here and smile’ session. I want to make sure that when we’re together we all take the time to breathe and pause and actually sit in these moments. To not focus on if everyone is smiling, or if hair is sitting right or all the stressful parts about getting everyone in the car and ‘prepared’ for photos. Kids have cranky days, heck adults have cranky days, and sometimes the weather throws us a curve ball but I challenge us both to view these experiences as opportunities to make memories with your children and family. To create an experience that your kids will think back on and smile because it was fun and they had a chance to have undivided attention from mom and dad who wanted to just hang out with them and have fun.

If you haven't heard yet....we're moving!

We knew this duty station was going to be a shorter stint at just under a year and we've been waiting patiently since Christmas in hopes we'd hear soon where we're going next.

So....Goodbye Texas.......

It’s cold and rainy and …. We found out where our next home is gonna be 😬

This life is wild and even though our kids knew this was going to be a short stint, and they knew the news was coming soon, and they knew the ‘reasonable’ options we could anticipate, and we Google mapped drives (if possible) and other country options ….. I was still surprised when initially my youngest felt disappointed. This is the first move we’ve where they weren’t immediately excited 🤣 I’m realizing a lot of it has to do with leaving friends all over the world and maybe less about the locations themselves.

But after some YouTube research…we are ALL really excited about this. We’ve shared the news with close friends and family and I’ll be making an announcement soon publicly. We’ve had a tradition the last few moves (minus the academy announcement) of involving the kiddos sharing the news. Sssoooo we are keeping with that. Stay tuned for when this weather clears and we can create our ultimate production 🤣

Also while I’m leaning into documentary right now, I very much still am offering my regular family sessions. If you want something indoor and cozy? I got you. If you want to capture the beautiful outdoors? Let’s bundle up and do this!!!

I finally got caught up enough, I have one more project left from Hawaii 🙌, to let myself take a pause and actually scan and begin editing our Japan trip from May this year. Fall break with my guys was an absolute perfect time to do this and it I’m honestly still in shock that we did as much as we did in Japan on such short notice. We never know where in the world we’ll be stationed next and being so close to Japan we knew if we didn’t take the trip before our PCS, we might not ever do it. 100% worth it. We absolutely love experiencing cultures and seeing the similarities and differences between humanity across the world with our family and while we could always have more time on these trips, we took advantage of every single second. So here’s our Day 1 in Japan: Shibuya and Gigi Akihabara. It doesn’t have to be a big trip like this but if your family has an adventure planned and you want it documented, I’d love to be your tag along family documenter!

I promise you I recite names in my head as I drive. I try to come up with ways to remember. I am just terrible with names and remembering certain details and it just leaves my brain 🤣

I truly do love the fact that this life we live allows us to see the world and share that with our children. Sometimes I sit in awe when I think back to all the places their feet have touched, the many different roads, they have an understanding of what walking on cobblestone in Italy feels like and the sound of crossing the street in Tokyo, they have felt and smelled the salty ocean breeze on the North Shore of Hawaii and are pretty fabulous at stepping off a plane without expectation but openness to see what we can learn. The downfall is in this job I seldom get to see families grow. I can only count one repeat birth client and I cherish those I get to see on social media. But, in the military we always say it’s a see you later because in this life you never know who you’ll cross paths with again. So when this family reached out that we were on the same island I was jazzed. They were a family from my early years doing this full time in Italy and one of my very first fresh 48 sessions. Their joy is infectious and I absolutely love the energy their kiddos have. It was a special treat to meet their newest two kiddos and seeing how the dynamic had changed with the littlest girl ❤️ I always say the biggest key to successful family photos is just to love each other and this family does it so well. Part two of this session is somehow even more fun as we splashed in the water for some more casual chaos 🙌 (my fav)

Having been raised in a desert most of my life…I was super excited when we found out we’d be stationed at Fort Bliss. I didn’t start photography until we moved away and absolutely took the desert scenery for granted. I still feel like we’re in a whirlwind here but I’m looking forward to adventuring out more and showcasing the gorgeous spots out west!

Spoiler…this was a session I did in prep for moving to Texas that is in Hawaii!

A lot of us have mixed feelings about today.

I’m a bit depressed at the direction our country is headed and at the same time, as a daughter of two parents who served and a wife to a soldier, a parent two two children whose lives have been a constant upheaval due to their fathers decision to serve our country. I am both proud to be an American while ashamed at the decisions of our government and many of my fellow citizens.

So much low birth, we ride the waves and we look die that night at the end because my prayer is always that good things come after hard things.

A little snip of our backdrop lately.

Our lips are constantly chapped, we have to remind our oldest to constantly put lotion on his hands after he washes them and this altitude is definitely an invisible factor in hiking but we are honestly so dang thrilled about being back in a desert environment. We both brew up in AZ and often get asked if we’ll settle there. The short and we is, we don’t see that in our future at all (although stranger things have happened) but this Utah desert have given us a dose of home we’ve been missing for years.

This move has been an odd one and I think it’s not one thing but just a lot of small pieces. Amongst it all we’re trying really hard to just regroup in our nuclear unit and soak in every second of grandparent time we can. The last time my boys had this much grandparent time was after my mom passed away, and their small 6 month and 3yr old selves back then don’t remember a whole lot (they’re 9 and 11 now 🤯). This nomadic life has its constant challenges but I love that we’ve been given this opportunity to be homeless right now with the perfect excuse to couch drop here until our home is ready in El Paso, TX.

So, there’s still gonna be some remnants of SO many amazing Oahu sessions but hopefully I’ll be able to sprinkle in some western fun with what our life looks like during this adventure. And here’s to always making home wherever I’m with this man I’m obsessed with and these wild feral children we created…and of course also the pets 🤣

Fun fact…I don’t generally offer couples sessions unless someone is pregnant 🙈🤣

This session though has me completely willing to revamp that and I’m likely going to be offering fun couples sessions in Texas cause I guess this live deserves to be celebrated as much as those sweet babies.

However, if it’s a family, couple, military event, cake smash…I am always down for an airfield session!
