This one was SO fun. 🙌

Melain is the founder of Rizzmic dance fitness AND the stylist behind Studio Blue — and honestly, that energy you see in this reel? That’s just her being herself.

When someone owns two businesses built entirely around how they make people feel, those good vibes just show through in the images.

If you’re ready to show up online the way you actually show up in real life — let’s shoot.

Spent two glorious days in Bellingham doing brand sessions at Amy and Josh Prieb’s idyllic home — Amy’s marriage therapy practice is in a yurt in a little meadow, and honestly one of the most peaceful spots I’ve had the chance to shoot in. There’s something about surrounding yourself with a space that reflects the calm you help others find.

Bonus clip: caught Amy and her husband Josh (audio mixer extraordinaire) prepping for their podcast, “It’s Nothing, I’m Fine.” Watching two people that in sync with each other’s work is special.

If you’re navigating challenges in your relationship — or just want to strengthen it — Amy’s the person to know. She’s also the relationship coach in The Crew The Crew Coaching Collective , plus her relationship workshops are 🙌. Go give her a follow. Amy Prieb, LMFT

You know you’re an encaustic artist when …you get so freaking excited about your newest blow torch! 😂

I’m loving the Bernzomatic Firepoint Creator Tool blow torch because I find having to hold the entire propane canister to be so clunky, plus the flame can be made super small for lighter wisps of heat.

Revisiting some Painting with Fire lessons from on creating geologic textures and atmospheric skies. . So much to learn but I’m enjoying it immensely and trying to approach it with no expectations and a beginners mindset, following the painting where it leads. It started out very pastel and airy but turned into a more stormy iteration.

I’ve also discovered that I really LOVE the carving process and adore the pottery tool.

Blank signs are endlessly useful in brand photography- my clients use them to make announcements, unveil a product or service, provide event details, drop a new podcast or blog episode, give a call to action and more. But once you go into Canva to add text you might find that it’s hard to get around your fingers, or the perspective is wrong so your text doesn’t look right. Avoid that hassle with these easy tweaks:
- keep the sign flat towards the camera lens, not at an angle
- keep fingers clear of the sign so you don’t have to work around them
- don’t forget to try different expressions so you have options later. Is your announcement exciting? Mysterious teaser? Super important? Sad news? You’ll want to have expressions to match.

Okay I’ve been quietly obsessed with encaustic painting over the last year and it’s time to share it with you.

It’s an ancient medium that mixes molten beeswax with Damar resin. And my favorite part is that I fuse with a blowtorch. 🔥. It’s alchemy.

Coming from a world of digital photography I really geek out over the tactile, sensory nature of all the layers and textures.

I layer in oil paints, pan pastels, inks, charcoal — fuse each layer with fire, then often I carve back into the various layers, excavating into the history of the piece.

Oh and I’ve been weaving photography into the work too, both for myself and for clients. More on that soon. 👀

Ever wonder what I’m actually doing before a shoot?

Scouting. Planning. Letting the artistic wheels start turning.

Because the right location isn’t just a pretty backdrop — it’s part of the story. I’m looking for light (always light), texture, depth, and a wide variety of spaces that give me layers to work with and a complete brand gallery for months of content.

Next up: a gorgeous modern home in Woodinville for an upcoming real estate agent shoot. Peerspace find. The light in this place is ridiculous. 🤍

Stay tuned. 👀

Okay but opening Instagram and seeing clients posting their photos out in the wild?

Best. Feeling. Ever.

This is why I do this. 🥹📸

Summer in my garden.
Golden hour working its magic.
Jasmine on the trellis, the kind of smell that makes me stop, breathe deeply and be present.

This is the light I chase for my clients.
Turns out it lives in my backyard too. 🌿

What are your favorite things about summer that make you stop and savor the moment?
