This month marks 18 years as a self-employed photographer.
When I was in elementary school I said that I wanted to be an Art Teacher when I grow up. When I left high school and entered college at the age of 17 it changed to being a Graphic Designer. So I started art school at the University of Utah despite my father's wishes to choose a STEM degree and my mother's wishes to be a nurse.
I did explore careers as a real estate agent and an escrow officer but both were not the right fit. It was when I was planning my wedding in 2006 that I became fascinated with wedding photography. I decided to go back to school and finish the art degree that I started and shifted my focus to photography. I would take classes during the week and would shoot photos on nights and weekends. Two years later I had a bachelor's degree in Fine Art Photography, two years of work experience as a photographer, and a portfolio.
So, the big question is: What does the next 18 years of my career look like? I'm currently learning video and would like to add that to my portfolio and services in the future. I'm exploring the idea of teaching art K-12 or self hosted classes. I do know for a fact that a corporate job is not the right fit for me.

I’m also excited to welcome you to my new studio at Photopia in Cottonwood Heights (7819 S Highland Dr). This luxurious, modern space is perfect for capturing beautiful, sophisticated portraits, and I can’t wait for you to experience it. I can shoot everything in this space: bo***ir, head shots, maternity, and family. It’s easy to find, parking right in front of the building, ground level, 14 different sets, and 3 times the size.
