This is a snippet of a conversation I had with myself earlier this week as well as a message to anyone reading this.
"If you're a photographer/videographer struggling to find your way in this ridiculously competitive industry and are thinking about quitting. Don't, just don't. I promise you that the pain of quitting then wondering where you could have been in a few years if you kept at it is EXPONENTIALLY greater than the pain you're feeling now trying to find your niche. Not everyone is going to like your 'art' which is fine because you're not for everyone. Not everyone is going to truly support you in the ways you really need which is fine too and more reason to keep your circle tight. This passion isn't for everyone which is why if you keep working hard, constantly learn new tricks to elevate your game, and really focus on developing an aesthetic that sets your apart from others you will thrive. As difficult as it may sound, keep your chin up, eyes and ears open and finding individuals like you who continually push you to be the greatest artist you can be. The world isn't over until you let it be. I'm proud of you for making it this far and ecstatic to see where you're going. Anyone and everyone who doubts you will be the first to kiss your ass when you finally catch that big break you've been working so hard for. Keep going because I believe in you more importantly keep going because you believe in yourself."
Many people fail in this industry because they stop believing and trying to be the individual they imagined they could be when first embarking on this journey. Don't write of your haters as they're your biggest critics, but don't let them bring you down either. You got keep, go pick up that camera and take some pics..
Sincerely yours,
Samuel Emenogu
