I say this to almost every senior during their session.

It’s my eloquent way of asking if I can make a few tiny adjustments to your pose because I’m not always so good with the words.

Sometimes I know exactly what I want to change, but apparently my brain has decided that “move your left shoulder approximately 3 inches backward while rotating your chin slightly toward the light” is too much information to retrieve in the moment.

You don’t have to know how to pose. That’s my job. You just have to let me push you around a little.

Years ago, I remember waking up in the middle of the night, not quite awake and not quite asleep and realizing that I only had a few years left before my daughter would be leaving for college. And it threw me into a genuine panic attack.

Because what do you mean she won’t be living here everyday? How can we go on our almost daily runs to McDonald’s for Diet Cokes? Who’s going to run errands with me? AND you’re telling me we have to be responsible for paying for something as expensive as college?!? Yeah. I was awake for a while after that one.

If this is you, just know that I wish I could go back and tell myself there was no need to panic. That yes, there will be change, but it will still be an adventure. And who doesn’t love a good adventure? (Old pic of when she was still working as a barista on the weekends!)
