I’m genuinely curious… are there couples out there who would actually want a truly documentary wedding photographer?
Meaning the photographer is actually there to document the event/experience and not to direct a photo shoot.
The kind where your wedding day is allowed to unfold naturally without being interrupted, or contrived or feeling like you’re actors on the set of a giant production.
Where the goal isn’t to create moments for the camera, but to preserve the moments that were already there.
I keep thinking about how weddings used to feel before social media got involved. Back when the photos were important, but they weren’t the entire point of the day. People were more focused on being there than performing.
I’ve been photographing weddings for 16 years and have an itch to do something different, challenge myself and connect with my clients in a new way. I’m considering offering a very limited number of weddings photographed completely as documentary stories.
No need for posing. Just BE at your wedding. Just BE with your person. Seriously, IGNORE the camera completely.
And to fully lean into that timeless feeling, every image in the gallery would be delivered entirely in black & white.
I honestly don’t know if there are couples that would connect with this idea, but I’d love to hear your thoughts if you do.
