We finally got to celebrate this fun and loving couple after two years of them being married! Their reception was delightful and fun, and it was an honor to be their photographer.

Good morning all, and happy holidays! I hope everyone who celebrated Christmas spent it merrily and with feelings of contentment. And to those whose holidays felt a little different this year, I wish you health and joy even where you're at now.

These photos are a little different from my usual "thing," but I'm so proud of how they turned out. It makes me even happier that the family loved them, too! The mother had so many great ideas for this shoot; it was a lot of fun to collaborate with her and her smiley little boy.⛄

Happy birthday to my very best friend & heart thief. 🍃

This little man is now 1! I was so honored to be able to participate in such an important family gathering and meet all the wonderful people that I did. I also learned a lot from this shoot, all of which I will take to heart and use to make my photography even better!

I want to talk about something a little more serious today, because I don't know who else might need to hear this.

Today I met up with a friend that I hadn't seen in almost 3 years. We talked about how we've been struggling to figure out our lives--specifically what we want to do with them. We're both severely burned out and feel... stuck. As we talked we began to realize we had both effectively narrowed our focus in order to just get through the day, day after day, for a long time. We'd been looking desperately for a way out, but our vision was so narrow, so specific, that we made it impossible to consider... other possibilities, for there to be something OUTSIDE of our range of focus. We made ourselves feel stuck. We blamed our stillness on outside circumstances: COVID-19, exhaustion, other people. But if there's something we want--if there's something YOU want, what are you going to do about it? What am I going to do about what I want? If I sit and wait for something to come to me, I'm going to be stuck doing what I've always done. If I try, but aim to be something I was in the past, I'm always going to be disappointed. Who says what I can be can't be better than what I once was?

Hear this: There is greatness in you. And it is screaming to get out. You are meant for something greater. You aren't going to figure it out right now, but that's okay. Everything will come together. You don't have to know what, when, or how. You don't have to be in control. It will happen at the exact moment it is supposed to. Release. Let go. Have faith.

A few more of these coming!

I'm learning that editing isn't a scary thing, and that it doesn't have to be destructive to the image. I always want to maintain a natural quality to my images and avoid the experimental characteristics I see with some photographers, because that's just not my style. I want raw beauty without having to alter the image itself, and I'm learning that selective editing to retain the lighting & details of real life is necessary sometimes, and I don't have to sacrifice my core principles.

Photos from a series I titled "Fossilized Honey," finished in April of this year.

Check out the entire series on my website!

For this series I wanted to focus on breaking down the two words individually and creating an experience when putting them together. I focused mostly on the word "fossilized" as a way to suggest something that was in hiding and waiting to be discovered. When combined with "honey," it made me think about the tenderness that we all harbor as human beings, even when we do not express it or embrace it. This series is about allowing that tenderness and vulnerability of the heart to exist in a world where things of soft nature are considered a weakness, and embracing them instead of repressing them.
