TIPS FROM YOUR LOCAL HOME INSPECTION EXPERT

Home is where the heart is, so take care of it!

Spring is in full swing, although the season has taken on a much different tone in this COVID-19 era.

As you’re likely spending a lot more time at home, we encourage you to stay busy. But, as Henry David Thoreau once wrote, “It is not enough to be busy; so are the ants. The question is: What are we busy about?”

If you’re thinking of being busy about maintaining your home this spring, we have some items for you to continue on your checklist!

Given the weather is changing (ideally for the better), now is a good time to clear dead plants and shrubs away from the house. Observe for trees that may be in contact with electrical lines. Repairing and replacing any damaged window screens is also something to tackle. And, safely check your roof for any leaks or damages from the ground with binoculars.

Review the expiration date on all of your fire extinguishers.

Inside your home, you’ll want to continue disinfecting as much as possible, particularly surfaces you frequently touch. This is good advice not for just when we’re facing a pandemic, but something to keep in mind all of the time. Also, inspect or change out HVAC filters as needed.

Enjoy the warmer weather as we eagerly await summer and the hope that better things are on the horizon.

Here are your Top To-Dos for the month:

Here's your full checklist:

● Continue to disinfect your home

● Inspect roofing for damages, leaks, etc.

● Check trees for interference with electric lines

● Clear dead leaves and plants/shrubs away from the house

● Repair/replace damaged window screens

● Inspect and possibly change out HVAC filters

● Inspect your fire extinguisher(s)

● Schedule your pool opening if applicable

● Rake and reseed bald spots on your lawn

● Apply new mulch around trees and plantings to retain moisture and minimize weeds

Happy 314 Day! How about a photo of the first iconic St. Louis structure looming over the current iconic structure? Of course I'm talking about the Eads Bridge and Gateway Arch. I've always wanted to get a little up close and personal with the Eads Bridge, which was opened in 1874 and was the first all steel bridge in the world. The bridge carried both cars and trains. It's been in operation since it's opening, except between 1991 and 2003 when the highway deck was closed. Thankfully it has been restored and now handles cars and pedestrian traffic. The Eads Bridge was the iconic image of St. Louis until the Gateway Arch was completed in 1965.
This 314 Day is a bit out of sorts. With the St. Louis BattleHawks cancelling their season, the St. Louis Blues pausing theirs and the St. Louis Cardinals delaying the start of opening day, I don't know what to do with myself. What I do know, is once all three sports start up again, I'm gonna be in 100%! Once things return to normal, please rally behind our teams with the same (if not greater) intensity as we left them!! Let's go Blues! Let's go Cardinals! KA-KAW!!!
