The old dead trees are the most fascinating - the countless trees lying in the gullies and up the hills that fell perhaps a century ago, pulling up their roots from the earth as they toppled. The great upheavals left rocks in their huge tentacles and, as they slowly rot, the trunks are home to populations of creatures, from goannas to wild pigs. As grey as tombstones in a cemetery they lie there, having outlasted generations of farmers, as they'll outlast me. In their own way they are as beautiful, more beautiful, than living trees.

Opened up a recent issue of Birds and Blooms magazine this evening, and was tickled to see my photo still being used in advertisements. This is an ad for “The Best of Birds & Blooms 2022.” That same painted lady butterfly/dwarf sunflower photo made it in there! I wasn’t even aware of it until my parents gave the “Best of” book to me this past Christmas (thanks mom & dad)! Proud moment!

A couple winters ago, my son Kobe took this picture of the old St. Charles Co. Courthouse on his phone. I thought it was so good that I saved it on my computer. I made a 5x7 of it (actually a card) and I might get a little frame for it. Originally built in 1901.

I have always wanted to get my own photo of this iconic STL image in Kiener Plaza. The running man statue is Kiener himself, who was on the US track team at the Olympics held in St. Louis in 1904 during the World's Fair. Kiener was a native St. Louisian who died in 1960.

Robins are really special birds. They can recognize familiar faces and will stay year-round if there is food. I remember growing up that when the robins returned, it was a sign of spring. I now see them year-round; they are very loyal birds. The average age of a robin is 6 years. This photo is dedicated to every human named "Robin."

This is my first photo of a Cedar Waxwing. This was taken early this morning just after sunrise. The birds love this tree with thousands of berries. Could be a Hawthorn tree, not sure. The droppings of the tree are very pesky, but birds are so thick you don't need birdseed around.
