Latest Humans of Minneapolis story by yours truly.
“I’m originally from Guadeloupe. My partner is from here. We met in Nice, France. I came here before and I felt there was a powerful vibe. I really felt a connection. I went to the Mississippi River and I felt it was very spiritual. That’s when I told myself, ‘yeah, I should live here.’ And my love for this place just came like that, by walking in nature. Just coming here on a vacation to explore, I thought it was beautiful, so I live here now. I have a visa, which is the first phase.
I don’t speak English very well yet, but even if you don’t speak English, people will tell you, ‘No problem, try. Yes, that’s good.’ That’s what I like here. If you make an effort, they’re going to encourage and help you. My partner speaks English, so she translates things for me, but I try to chat with people, too, because that’s how it’s going to come to me.
I noticed something when I went to Lake of the Isles. Everyone was saying hello to me. I was a little shocked by that, because oftentimes in France, you don’t even look at others, while here when I walk, people say hello. I really felt that.
It’s great because it’s multicultural. You walk in the street and you can meet a Mexican, an Ethiopian, a Guadeloupean, or a French girl, like you. And I think there are opportunities here. It’s a place where you can thrive if you have the willpower and the character. I’ve seen people who managed to succeed who did not necessarily speak English well, like myself, so I think this is a country where you can succeed in what you want.”
“Is there anything else you’d like to share?”
“We need more love, more love, more love, more love. And more unity. This is how we move forward, all together.”
