I heard the wind, checked the radar, and then sat on the back porch waiting for the show. Within minutes after the system hit the Twin Cities heat dome, it fell apart. However, the sunset color was a nice consolation prize!

Random delights. While enjoying a glass of wine with friends, the sun cast its beam through the glass. The result was this appearance of spark-like rays. A napkin served as the backdrop.

Look what I found. I was at a meeting in rural Bloomington. On the way back to my car, I noticed this fine looking Neolentinus (aka Train Wrecker) mushroom group. They are edible, but I did not harvest them, as they were on private property.

30 seconds. On a breezy evening, light of the setting sun filtered through fluttering leaves created golden sparkles.

Once again I am visiting the gardens of my high-school friend, Jan Hurst (Gruber). She and her husband are in a southern suburb of St. Paul. She is a dedicated gardener, and her husband has also contributed to the mix of cultivated and wild flower species they grow. It is a luxury to have hours of solitude to simply observe and practice. I find the up-close details fascinating. My macro-lens gets a works out, as do my knees! Plants are identified with captions on each photo. Jan will let me know if I have correctly identified them!

From our visit to Arizona in March. We visited the Boyce Thompson Arboretum. Lesser known than the Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix, but not less interesting. Founded in 1924 by mining magnate William Boyce Thompson. A miner who became a naturalist, dedicated the 400 acres of his winter home near Superior Arizona to the preservation and cultivation of desert plants. (See captions on individual photos).

Everyone loves a sunrise, but that first hour of daylight can reveal some lovely patterns and textures. I was drawn to step outside for this one. Enjoy your day!

Now is the time for a "Spring Color" drive. Although fall colors are bright and intense, the subtlety of spring colors holds beauty too. These are pictures from a visit to the Red Wing -Frontenac area a few years back at about this time of year. Every species of tree and shrub leafs out in a subtle version of the colors you will see in the fall. Go for a drive and check it out!

Cadillac Ranch. Created in 1974 as a public art installation. Ten Cadillacs were buried nose first into the dirt near Amarillo Texas on Route 66. Visitors are encouraged to create "art" with spray paint. We have visited here in the past, but never on a Saturday! Very busy. And this time, there was a food truck on site that was also selling spray paint. Free to visit, fun to watch. If you plan to paint, wear old clothes. It is often windy out there!

It's been a while. In late February - early March we took a few weeks and drove to Arizona for a visit with the grandsons and their parents. I took a lot of pictures! But processing, organizing and posting lagged a bit. It's been busy, but last night I filed our taxes! It's time for a change of pace. I will be posting some "topic" groups over the next week or so.

This first group is from Carlsbad Caverns National Park. We went a bit off the shortest route in order to spend a couple of nights and a full day at Carlsbad, New Mexico. The cave is entered either through a natural opening, or by taking an elevator down 750 feet. We chose to walk the switchback trail down. Once inside, there are miles of trails, all paved and with handrails. You have to stay on the path and no touching allowed of the hundreds of millions of years old cave formations. I put additional notes on the pictures. I highly recommend Carlsbad for a place on your bucket list!
