April 24th 2021 - Minneapolis, MN
The day began with a march dedicated to Adam Toledo, a 13-year-old boy who was shot and killed with his hands in the air by police in Chicago, Illinois.
The day ended with a candle light vigil at the location where Yadhira Romero Martinez, 19, lost her life two days prior.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help support the transport and burial of Yadhira’s remains in Mexico with her parents. If you would like to support, then a link can be found in .s.s bio.
Thank you
These are images from the march and vigil accompanied with more than a few words from community members who are mourning Yadhira.
“I just wanted to start off by saying: look to your left and look to your right. One in six women have been r***d. Look at how many women are standing here. One in six women are survivors of s*xual assault or s*x trafficking. All I have to say, especially to the men, but to everybody Is that help starts at home. Check your dad’s. Check your brothers. Check your Homies. Because all men are complicit in violence against women. Every single man. Even the ones here. So, like I said check your people. Help starts at home. This reminds me a lot of Vanessa Guillen. We had a lot of men come out here and say, ‘justice for Vanessa Guillen’, but they go home, they beat their wives, they’re mean to their mothers, their sisters, they catcall. So, check that s**t. That’s all”
