A few weeks before my stepdad passed away, we talked about scheduling an extended family session.
All of his kids. All of my mom’s kids. The grandkids. Everyone together.
We kept saying we’d do it soon. Maybe this fall.
Life got busy. We never brought it up again. There was always another day...
Then suddenly, there wasn’t.
One of my biggest regrets is that I never made myself get in photos with him. I was uncomfortable in my own body. I told myself I’d wait until I lost the weight, felt more like myself, had a better outfit, or looked better in pictures.
Now I would give anything to have those photos.
The truth is, the people who love you aren’t looking at your weight, your tired eyes, or the things you criticize about yourself. They just want you. And one day, those photos may become some of the most treasured things your family owns.
Please don’t wait for the perfect time.
Don’t wait until everyone is available.
Don’t wait until you’ve lost the weight.
Don’t wait until the kids are older.
Don’t wait until next year.
Take the photos. Book the session.
The session I’m sharing was photographed the weekend of my stepdad’s funeral. Standing there with that family, capturing generations together in one frame, was a powerful reminder of just how important these sessions really are. It felt especially heavy knowing that my own family had planned to do the same thing, but never got the chance.
If you’ve been thinking about scheduling an extended family session, consider this your sign. Because sometimes “later” is too late.
And when the people we love become memories, photographs become priceless.
When you're ready, I'm here to capture it for you 🫶
