I was talking with a friend this morning about how much I love newborn sessions. Taking the time to slow down, soak in the new season, balancing toddler requests for attention, family snuggles… the most precious times that go way too fast.

The best engagement sessions (in my opinion) reflect what you love to do together. Sure, they may be used for a save the date or to display in your parent’s home, but I don’t see them as a reason to show off your engagement ring. There are two reasons I love and suggest engagement sessions;

1 - They break down the awkwardness of getting your photo taken. The goal is to not worry about, focus on, or feel self conscious about the camera in front of you. On your wedding day I want you to feel as natural as possible so that you don’t feel like you’re performing, and getting the experience to be photographed as your natural self BEFORE your wedding day is invaluable.

2 - Having professional photos of you in your everyday environment is a gift. Wedding photos are incredible and special and irreplaceable, but being able to look at yourself and your relationship in a beautiful way that may seem “just average” is my favorite part.

Your relationship is beautiful. How you spend time together is beautiful. Being able to look back and say “this is how we fell in love” is priceless.

In an age of AI or outsourcing, one place I will never bring it into my workflow is culling wedding images (or any other session, for that matter).

One thing that is incredibly important to me and my work is showcasing images that reflect you as your most authentic self. Being with you for an extended period of time, I know what your truest smiles, laughs, stares, and sighs of reliefs look like. I will not let anyone else or a robot choose these moments based on any algorithm or assumption ❤️

12 favorite frames from yesterday’s NYE wedding with Molly & Andrew 🥂

You’ll notice there are some photos in here that are not traditional. These are 12 frames that speak volumes to the uniqueness of a singular day, not just what the internet wants to see. That mosaic? It’s the elevator floor with a beam of light as the elevator doors close. Some shadows, some no-flash moments, some no-face moments…things that represent the art of wedding photography.

My goal in 2026 is to channel more of this. Post more of this. The messy, real, shadowy, imperfect, raw parts.
