Patrick Russell Photography

Patrick Russell Photography It’s like photography. But turned to 11. Photography is somewhere between a passion and an addiction for me. The switch to digital was an inevitable one for me.

I started this journey in high school and knew immediately that photography was going to be a huge part of my life. I spent the next three years learning black and white photography by developing my own film in a darkroom. Even in that short time I realized that my vision for photography would quickly stretch the capabilities of my gear. It wasn’t long before I was attempting dual exposures, stack

ing negatives or attempting complicated processing techniques to create images that challenged what was possible with film. Although I was creating compelling images I still wasn’t satisfied. I wasn’t able to completely transfer the vision that I held in my head to film no matter how hard I tried. So I took the leap and purchased my first digital camera. It was basic, it was cheap, but I was hopelessly in love. The possibilities that digital has opened up are seemingly limitless. Every day brings new challenges that force me to learn or create techniques to solve those challenges. After moving to digital I spent the next 6 years learning off camera lighting and spending countless hours exploring every nook and cranny of Photoshop. Today, by using a combination of bold lighting and a deep knowledge of Photoshop I am able to finally take the images I see in my head and share them with the world.

Cherry blossoms are a rare treat. They are only at their best for a week. That week usually happens to be smack in the middle of Oregon’s rainy season.

When everything lines up it’s an incredible backdrop for seniors, families and couples. Cody, Victoria and I had an excellent session today.

If you want a cherry blossom session, this week is your chance!

Loved this session. I’m saving my favorite for last though so check back in on Thursday. It involves a borrowed motorcycle from a stranger.

Does using graffiti as a backdrop count as “collaborating with a local artist?” Asking for a friend.

I’m probably going to just break my lens so that it only shoots at f/1.2 permanently. Goodness that bokeh.

Brian’s session is almost edited! Looking forward to sharing the rest with him.

Got one last senior session in before the rain hit and it was one heck of a day. Couldn't have asked for better weather!

Golden hour is just the best! This is becoming one of my favorite little hidden places to shoot. On another note... I’m fairly certain Kylee can beat me up.
