Choosing a photographer based only on the lowest price can come with risks, ESPECIALLY when a newborn is involved.

Newborn photography requires more than a nice camera and a cute setup. A safety trained professional understands proper positioning, safe wrapping, temperature control, circulation, breathing, head and neck support, and which poses must be created as composites rather than attempted in camera.

Babies cannot tell us when something hurts, feels uncomfortable, or restricts their breathing. Their safety should never be sacrificed for a photograph…or a lower price.

You’re not only investing in beautiful images. You’re trusting someone with your baby. That’s why I took the time, and invested in so much training over the past 20 years. It’s why I hold a Newborn Safety Certification. Please Mama, keep this in mind when looking for your babies first photographer. 🤍

Successful newborn session. Photographers edition…
1. Start with swaddling. This creates a snug and safe feeling so baby drifts into a deep sleep. Getting safety certified is a MUST.
2. Create a calming atmosphere. A grounding meditation, soft baby music, and the baby shusher. Babies (and mamas) pick up on energy. So this one is super important. Leave any stress at home.
3. Solid posing flow. Start with swaddled in props, then siblings (so they can be done and play) family poses, and lastly the solo baby poses. I save details for last in case baby is over it. They don’t need to be asleep to photograph their tiny details.

Even though the majority of my newborn photos are done in my studio, I have a lot of experience doing in home lifestyle sessions. That’s how I started back in the early 2000’s.
It wasn’t until 2017 that I opened my very first studio.

Doing this session made me fall in love with this style of session all over again. 🤍

Going home to the Central Coast was so special.✨

I was a little nervous about this beach session because June fog can be so unpredictable, so I intentionally chose Avila Beach, where the cove often stays clear. Both the grandparents and I had traveled in from out of town, so we really only had one shot to make it happen. 🙏

Thankfully, the weather couldn’t have been more perfect. I’m so grateful everything aligned, and this sweet family now has beautiful images to look back on as Baby Addisons first year comes full circle. 🤍
