The ONE time I break my own "solid colors only" wardrobe rule.
My go-to wardrobe advice for branding sessions? Solid colors. Always. Patterns can pull focus away from YOU—and you're the hero of these images.
But then there's my favorite exception: "Patterns with Purpose."
Over the years, I've had countless clients say "But I ALWAYS wear patterns. It's just who I am." And THAT'S when we make patterns work beautifully.
Meet Tate ✨ Her new brand and logo are fun and whimsical, so when she brought this dress dress for her shoot, I knew it was absolutely perfect. This wasn't a random pattern grabbed from her closet—this was an INTENTIONAL choice that:
✅ Matched her brand's playful vibe perfectly
✅ Incorporated her secondary and supporting brand colors
✅ Felt authentically HER
Now she has images where she looks like she naturally belongs on her new website—cohesive with her brand without being "matchy matchy."
The difference between patterns that work and patterns that distract?
❌ Choosing patterns by convenience
✅ Choosing patterns with PURPOSE
When your signature style IS bold prints and patterns, we absolutely want to honor that in your brand images. But it needs to be strategic, intentional, and aligned with your brand story.
Your branding photos should feel like the most authentic version of you—sometimes that means breaking the "rules" to get it right.
What's YOUR signature style that makes you instantly recognizable?
