“Why should I do a first look, Amber?”

Because it gives you something most wedding days don’t have enough of: a moment that belongs completely to the two of you. ❤️

Instead of seeing each other for the first time surrounded by 150 people and then not being able to speak to one another until the ceremony concludes, you get a few quiet minutes together before the day really takes off.

And there’s another huge bonus…

It gives us time.

We can create your bride and groom portraits, wedding party photos, and even some family photos before the ceremony. That means more time for beautiful portraits, and less time away from your guests (and the party you paid for!)

And no, it doesn’t mean your ceremony has to be less emotional. My couples who did a first look almost always tell me they were still completely overwhelmed when they saw each other walking down the aisle.

So if you’re asking me what I recommend?

A first look. Every time.

Not because you have to do one, but because I think you’ll love having that little piece of your wedding day that was just yours. 📸❤️

“Amber, if you have two photographers, why don’t you just split up?”

Because having a second photographer is incredibly valuable, but there still needs to be one creative vision.

My second photographer is there to capture the moments I can’t be in two places for. For example, during cocktail hour they can capture guests while I’m creating with you and your bridal party.

But when it comes to the most important parts of your day like your portraits, your couple’s session, your creative shots, I’m leading. These two images were photographed separately during the getting-ready time in the morning. Two different locations at different times, yet they fit together beautifully in the wedding album.

That’s not an accident.

I’m thinking about the light, the composition, the location, the posing, and how your final images will all work together in the end.

That means the entire gallery still feels like one story, from one creative brain.

Two photographers does mean more moments captured. But one main vision should be in the lead. 📸❤️

We keep going. Period. 😉

Michigan weather can change in a heartbeat, and your wedding day doesn’t stop because the forecast does.

These three images were taken back-to-back as the wind picked up, rain started falling, and then snow rolled in. We didn’t pack it up, we kept shooting, adjusted, and made some pretty epic images.

You’re not hiring me just for the perfect-weather days. You’re hiring me to make something beautiful happen no matter what the day throws at us.

So bring on the Michigan weather. I’m ready. ❤️

Give me a bad location over bad lighting any day. 👏🏼

I spent most of my career as a photographer learning light, and that has made all the difference. I always bring light with me because if the location is something I want to use I can make it look any way I would like.

Here I am using one simple Westcott light and a small Octa S soft box against the fading sunshine behind her. The results are beautiful, warm, dreamy Summer afternoon vibes. And you’d never know we were next to a busy road, in an abandoned parking lot. 👏🏼💛

You're right! Because maybe you don't need headshots, you need branding ones! And...your branding photos don't have to look like everyone else's.

What if you could actually show people who you are, what you do, and what makes you different, all in one photo?

This dancer in the Las Vegas desert is a perfect example. Instead of putting him against a plain backdrop and calling it a branding session, we created images that FEEL like what he does - his movement, personality, artistry, and a little bit of flare.

Your branding session can be a location that tells your story. It can be dramatic, playful, unexpected, editorial, adventurous, or completely outside the box.

You need images people remember that get you seen in the spaces that you want to be. 📸✨

For this hockey set, everything was created in camera.

I chose intentional lighting to create depth and the filter for the mimic of motion. I’m using the filters glass to turn a static pose into movement and make everything more cinematic.

No forcing him to jump around. No Photoshop effects. Just light + technique + the right filter.

💜 Scott & Sara’s engagement session in Grand Rapids was anything but the standard “stand here, smile at the camera” session.

We chased the light, played with perspective, and let their city become part of their story. This photo is one of my favorites because it captures their romantic stolen moment in the heart of a moving city space.

That’s what I love about engagement sessions. We can make them beautiful, romantic, fun, dramatic, weird, adventurous… whatever feels like the two of you.
