A little about the girl behind the camera, because there’s a whole lot more to me than wedding photos.

I’m Lauren. A wife, a mom to three little humans (including a set of twins), a marathon runner, a physical therapist, and somewhere in the middle of all that, a wedding photographer.

My life is loud, a little chaotic, usually running behind, and full of people I love more than anything.

I’m a big feelings kind of person. I laugh easily, care probably a little too much, and will absolutely remember some tiny detail you mentioned in passing six months ago.

I’ve spent a lot of my life studying movement. First as a runner, then as a physical therapist, and now, in a completely different way, through a camera. I think that’s a big part of how I see people. I’m drawn to the way someone reaches for a hand without thinking, the way a dress moves across the floor, or how someone’s entire face changes when their favorite person walks into a room.

And motherhood? That’s changed everything about the way I see photographs.

I know now, more than ever, how quickly a season of life becomes a memory. How the ordinary things you barely notice today can become the very things you wish you could go back to.

I think that’s why I care so much about what happens between the photographs.

I want you to have the beautiful portraits. The thoughtfully composed images. The kind you frame and hang in your home.

But I also want you to actually remember what it felt like to be there.

To laugh until your face hurts. To hug your people a little longer. To have a wedding day that feels like yours, not one long photoshoot.

I’ll give you direction when you need it, probably make a fool of myself to get you laughing, fix your dress, and then quietly step back when the moment deserves to just be yours.

Because I don’t think a beautiful photograph is worth missing the beautiful thing that’s happening in front of you.

Anyway, that’s a little piece of me. A mom with running shoes by the door, approximately a million things on her mind, and a camera in her hand.

The details deserve to be noticed. The photos deserve a place on your walls. But the day itself? That deserves to be lived.

I want you to have the beautiful portraits, the thoughtfully chosen details, and the kind of images you’ll still love 30 years from now.

But I also want you to have the time of your life.

To actually eat the dinner you spent months choosing. To laugh with your friends, hug your grandparents, have another drink, and dance with your favorite person.

Because at the end of the day, you’re not getting married for the photos- that’s a bonus 😉

You’re getting married to spend your life with someone you love, surrounded by the people who helped get you here.

Headed back to one of my favorite cities this weekend, not for a wedding but for the Detroit Free Press Marathon

Grateful for the marathon of wedding days in detroit this summer and fall and excited to see what surprises the city has in store tomorrow morning and hoping I can make 13.1 look half as cool as Daria and Jake were this July

A wedding day can go by weirdly fast.

So if there’s one thing I’d tell you after capturing over 130 weddings, it’s this: don’t rush through the parts YOU were excited for just because the timeline says it’s time to move on or someone else told you to.

Stay for the extra hug. Finish the conversation. Take one more minute together.

Those are usually the parts that end up mattering most.

Driving over to Grand Rapids to photograph Mr and Dr Mills wedding (yes she’s a DPT too- yay women in medicine), I was listening to my favorite podcast .ish and said something that hit some feels. She talked about how photos are an acute reminder of time that’s part. She was talking about sending her son to college, but it made me think of how I photograph a wedding and how I help my couples be present so they can experience their day.

Of course the details, the fashion and the people matter, but underneath all of that is presence.

She went on to talk about moments that have felt more bittersweet were the ones she was not fully present for, because you realized you missed something.

If I could tell you in one sentence my whole philosophy for weddings- be so present you experience your day to the fullest extent and have the images to reignite your own memories.
