Continuing my story... (check my pinned posts for the first two parts).

My first logo was a bride walking a pug.

For a decade I photographed weddings and dogs out of my San Francisco studios — and the dogs were always there, pulling at the leash. Literally. Eventually the pug got his own icon.

When I remarried and became Ann Burgermyer, I had transitioned out of weddings to photograph families, kids and dogs. I wanted a name that wasn’t about me, but more about what was dear to my heart. So I became Dearheart Studios.

But my heart kept tugging at the dogs.

In December 2022, reached out to feature my dog work. Shortly after, Dogs on Paper was born.

25 years as a photographer. The obsession never changed. Just the name.

I photographed Pearl last November. This brindle beauty is back in foster care with and still waiting for her person. She’s available for adoption through — go give them both a follow and read her story. She deserves everything. 🖤🤍🖤

Hugs. Chaos. Pure joy. Lucy and her girls brought all of it into the studio — and this sweet, goofy, completely devoted three-year-old German Shepherd took it all in stride. Even when the girls decided to dress her up. It’s why I love having kids and dogs in the studio. The most beautiful moments are always unexpected. 🖤

Some connections are instant. 💗

When Maisie’s dad first saw her at Bradshaw Animal Shelter, their eyes met and he knew. She was an urgent plea dog with medical needs — time was running out. But love has a way of moving fast when it needs to.

Throughout our session, he would whisper to her: I love you.

She knew.

From a shelter kennel to a studio full of light — this is Maisie now. Sweet, observant, gloriously goofy, and a found baseball that brought her so much joy.

In her mom’s words: “Getting Maisie out of Bradshaw was literally a miracle — and we are so grateful to all the volunteers who helped facilitate this special adoption.”

This is what rescue looks like. 💕

Before Dogs on Paper, I spent a decade documenting love stories across San Francisco and beyond — with a photojournalist’s eye and a fine art sensibility — including destination weddings in 17 countries in a single year. But the dogs always called me back. 🖤
