If you've ever seen a bee sitting perfectly still inside a flower, don't worry—it probably isn't dead. Chances are, it's simply asleep. After spending the day collecting nectar and pollen, many bees settle into flowers to rest, revealing a surprisingly gentle side to these hardworking pollinators.

Not all bees sleep the same way. Honey bees return to their hive, where they rest on the honeycomb. Since they don't have eyelids, they sleep with their antennae still and their muscles so relaxed that they sometimes tip over. Fellow worker bees have even been observed supporting sleeping bees to keep them from falling.

Many solitary bees and male bees, however, prefer sleeping inside flowers. They curl up among the petals, clinging to the center like it's a tiny bed. Some photographers have even captured multiple bees sharing the same blossom for the night, peacefully resting side by side as the sun sets.

Sleep is essential for bees. Well-rested foragers remember where the richest flowers are and communicate those locations through the famous "waggle dance." Research shows that sleep-deprived bees perform poorer dances, making it harder for the entire hive to find food efficiently.

Even nature's busiest workers need a good night's sleep. Sometimes, the cutest reminder to slow down is a tiny bee peacefully napping inside a flower.

This cat returned home bright blue after crashing a neighbor’s gender-reveal party. 🐱💙

Two-year-old tabby Wilbur surprised her family in Cornwall after returning home with her body covered in bright blue powder. She had wandered into a neighbor’s garden and rolled through harmless cornstarch left from a gender-reveal celebration. Her face stayed untouched, creating the unusual look. After several baths, Wilbur returned safely to her normal coloring.

More than a thousand years ago, Maya dental specialists were creating decorative tooth inlays with a level of precision that still impresses researchers today.

They carefully drilled small cavities into living teeth and fitted pieces of jade, turquoise, pyrite, and other minerals into the openings.

The work was not simply a rough attempt to push stones into enamel.

The holes were shaped with care, and the inlays were secured using durable cements made from mixtures that included plant resins, mineral materials, and other organic compounds.

Modern chemical analysis has found ingredients with antibacterial, antifungal, or anti-inflammatory properties in some of these ancient adhesives.

That may have helped protect the tooth and surrounding tissue while keeping the decoration in place.

The strongest evidence of their skill is that some inlays have remained attached for centuries.

Researchers believe the practice was usually decorative or connected to identity and status rather than a treatment for damaged teeth.

It also appears across different levels of Maya society, suggesting that dental modification was not reserved only for rulers.

Imagine the knowledge required.

The specialist needed to drill without breaking the tooth or reaching the sensitive pulp. The stone had to fit the cavity. The adhesive had to hold in a wet mouth exposed to pressure, food, and bacteria every day.

This was accomplished without electric tools, modern anesthetics, or synthetic dental cement.

Ancient dentistry is often described as primitive because it lacked modern equipment.

The Maya evidence tells a more complicated story.

Their methods combined craftsmanship, botanical knowledge, mineral science, and an understanding of the human tooth.

What looked like jewelry was also an extraordinary technical achievement, small enough to fit inside a smile and strong enough to survive for a millennium.
