Aside from the sleepless nights, the crying, and the stage 5 clingers, being a parent has its perks! You get to be a detective (trying to figure out what they’re trying to say or want from you); you have a built-in comedian (the weird things they do in their sleep, the way they describe you to other people, their dancing, the way they pronounce “truck”); a personal hype-man (because they usually tell you how awesome you are (when they’re little)); and oddly enough, sometimes you can try to out-do your parents’ embarassing-ness on your own teenagers. The sky’s the limit! All the stages have their perks and each of those stages skips by faster than you can pour your next cup of coffee just to try to keep up...
This morning, I watched a video that I found in my Google Drive that someone had sent to me of me entertaining my youngest when he was a wee babe (who is a newly-minted 10yo now) who is incessantly trying to bounce on my knee and I am continuously bouncing my knee to keep the happiness momentum up while he squeals and giggles.... and WOW was that a minute ago!?!
And the baby in this photo? This was 5 YEARS AGO. He is doing all kinds of magical and funny things that his parents are enjoying, probably more than they were enjoying his funny-sleeping-self in this photo.
This is your reminder that there is no time better for a family portrait session than right now.... Don’t wait until they’re graduating and you’re sitting there wondering where that little weirdo/sweet little kid/courageous superhero worshipper went.... and then also get that highschooler photographed too, because that phase is even faster.
