This is Mary, Phil's wife. Most of you know but some didn't, Phil had a heart attack Monday night. He had to be air lifted to Genesis East. As they were loading him into the helicopter, he coded and they recuscitated him. He was intubated and sedated and was stable. He was admitted into the ICU. He was sedated most of yesterday but they weaned him off sedation and the intubation tube was removed yesterday. They have run multitudes of tests and can't figure out why the heart attack happened. His heart and arteries look good. Last night he had pain in his chest every time he took a breath. They said it was pneumonia. I was not permitted to stay overnight in his room with him, so only allowed to be with him from 8am-8pm so I went home last night and for the first time in 40 years that Phil and I have been together, I found myself alone. I didn't like it!! It's a good thing i have a good neighbor Wesley Unke who happens to be a Sherriff to look out for me. First thing this morning, I headed back to the hospital to find him in terrible pain. The Doctor now believes that it wasn't pneumonia but believes when Phil was resuscitated they may have fractured his rib by performing CPR. I looked it up and it commonly does happen. They just took him for a more recent cat scan to see if there is indeed a fracture. The doctor said that It just may not have shown up in the first cat scan that they did while checking his heart so she ordered another. We are waiting for results of that. The cardiologist was in and since they could find no cause for Phil's heart attack they would like for him to be fitted for a life vest and he will have to wear it for atleast 3 months. They also want him to be seen in iowa City for a mri of his heart. If you could please take a minute to say a prayer for him i would be so grateful. I don't think I've ever been more scared. I will update when I know more.
