BETWEEN BLOOD & LIGHT 🌘

Last night I stayed up way too late with my camera pointed at the sky, changing settings, taking another photo, changing them again…and watching the Earth’s shadow slowly consume the Moon.

And I am SO glad I did.

These are all photographs I captured throughout the eclipse, from the bright Moon at the beginning to that incredible deep red near maximum eclipse. I edited each image individually and then brought them together to create the first piece: Between Blood & Light.

I’m still learning astrophotography. I’m still learning what my camera and lens are capable of. And nights like this are exactly why I love photography so much.

There’s something different about witnessing a moment like this and knowing, I captured that. 🖤

BETWEEN BLOOD AND LIGHT 🌘

I stayed up half the night literally chasing this shot. 🌑📸

Cloud coverage sent me driving from Dover all the way to Rye in the middle of the night just trying to find a clear patch of sky. At 12:00 AM, I set up at a pull-off with my camera and at 1:20 a police officer came over to let me know there’s no parking there after midnight—which I had no idea about. 😬 Thankfully, he was incredibly kind. He saw what I was doing and said, “I know you’re capturing the eclipse, so please just leave when you can.” I did not get his name because I was too busy complying with his orders! 😂

So there I was… exhausted, on the side of the road in Rye at 12:30 in the morning, camera pointed at the sky, getting kicked out of my eclipse-viewing spot. 😂

And I got the shot.

Changed my settings. Took another photo. Changed them again. Took another. Learned as I went.

And somewhere in the middle of all that trial and error…

I captured this.

That tiny edge of light against the copper-red shadow of the moon. 😭

I’m still learning photography. I’m still learning my camera. And THAT is exactly why moments like this feel so damn good.

Worth every minute of lost sleep. 🖤🌙

I took these photos from the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park on July 16, 2026. I am not sure who the members of this hiking group are, but if you see yourself in them, let me know, and I'll send them to you directly!

Last Fourth of July, I captured this sunset in Rye, New Hampshire. This year, I turned that photograph into something that reflects what I hope for our country and for each of you.

“To liberty, good neighbors, and grateful hearts. May our tables be full, our homes be safe, and our nation be worthy of the sacrifices made for its freedom.”

Wishing you a meaningful and joyful Independence Day. 🇺🇸

If this message speaks to you, please feel free to share it with someone you’d like to wish a Happy Fourth of July.
