Made a quick trip to Chimney Rock today for some spring wildflowers. It's been a minute since I've been up on the top trail. Got to see a few things I haven't seen in a while. Here are some shots from my visit.

Each spring, I try to make it to somewhere that I'll see wildflowers or waterfalls. Most of the time I find both. This time, it was a trip to Catawba Falls, one of my favorite western North Carolina waterfalls.

Spring is here. Here are some early spring wildflower shots and the base of Hickory Nut Falls.

Since the snow's going to miss us this time around, my brother Sidney and my youngest son, Colby, decided to go find some snow in the mountains. Roan Mountain can usually be counted on as a place to find snow when there's none anywhere else closer to home. Not to mention, I feel at peace up there at any time of the year. It was cold, but not horribly so. The wind was blowing fine needles of snow and the top of the mountain was in the clouds, which was where the snow was coming from, a remnant of little clipper system that brought between an inch to two inches up there. Here are some of the pics I was able to get. Some of them look black and white which was due to the grayness of the fog. Made the shots look dramatic though.

Day 6: Our last full day in Sedona, we decided to get as much hiking in as we could. Based on a recommendation, we decided to hike what's known as the West Fork of Oak Creek Canyon, a 7.2-mile, out-and-back hike into what I would call one of the most beautiful places in Arizona. West Fork has 13 stream crossings on the maintained trail, so you sort of have to prepare yourself for the possibility of getting wet. The trail is mostly level, but does have some moderately challenging places. It was tiring but well worth the effort.

After spending the entire morning and part of the afternoon at West Fork, we went back to the room and rested for a few minutes, realizing that we were totally worn out, but I still needed my sunset picture. Based on another recommendation and with adrenaline to push us onward, we drove over to the Doe Mountain Trailhead and hiked to the top of Doe Mountain, a hike that would make our trip to Sedona climactic and conclusive.

Day 5: We start our adventure heading north on 89A from Sedona towards Flagstaff, from 4,000 feet to 7,000 feet above sea level. We got on I-40 and headed west to historic Williams, where we boarded the Grand Canyon Railway for a two-hour train ride to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon at Grand Canyon Village. This was our first trip ever to the Grand Canyon, and it's quite a lot to take in and fathom, especially knowing that we were only seeing a small portion of the over 200-mile-long, 1-mile-deep, 8-mile-wide gully, carved by the wild and raging waters of the Colorado River.

Pics from Price Lake on an evening shoot with the Carolina Nature Photographers Association, Foothills North and South Region groups. We went for Milky Way shots but a storm prevented good visibility of the Milky Way from that location. Still the lake was like glass and presented some awesome reflections.
