The Carolina Nature Photographer's Association, Foothills South Region took a trip up to the Blue Ridge Parkway to try to get some milky way shots. Unfortunately, the clouds didn't cooperate so we weren't able to shoot the core. I was able to get some shots that I could analyze for future reference to reduce star trails and things like that. Another thing that was quite obvious was how much ground-level light is reflected by clouds. We were able to catch some early meteors from the Perseids meteor shower and some Starlink trains. The sunset was also quite nice before we started shooting stars. I set up two tripods, one with my digital SLR and one with my iPhone. I must say, I was quite impressed with my phone's performance. The details wasn't as good as the SLR, but still quite impressive.

Getting caught up on some Fourth of July Pics. I posted my fireworks shots, but I didn't get to post any from the jet ski racing at Isothermal, so here are some of what I got from that event. Looking forward to more action next year.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring! Shot at Isothermal Community College during the Rutherford County 250th Birthday Party for America. These were some of the highlights of the fireworks show. Quite possibly the best I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of fireworks shows.

Group #2 Pics from Kauai. These are combinations of GoPro and Smartphone. In some cases, I didn't take my Canon SLR due to risk of it getting damaged due to the type of activity we were doing. On this particular day, we toured the Napali Coast (the northwest side of the island). The only way to access the Napali Coast is by boat or by a 13 mile (one way), intensely rugged trail. We also did a little snorkeling here. Interesting thing about the Napali Coast is that at one time, there were over 200 waterfalls coming down the steep cliffs, many of which would have been over 3,000 feet tall. The sugar industry re-routed the water to the interior of the island to provide water for sugar cane production. The sugar plantations are gone, but they never restored the waterflow. To do so now, would alter the new, fragile ecosystem that has developed since the removal of the water. It was very intriguing from an ecological point of view.

We have returned from our Kauai vacation, jetlagged, yet rejuvenated. Counting my phone and digital SLR camera, I snapped nearly 1500 photos. After processing all of those images, I'm going to do this as a multiple day photo dump. So here is Group #1 Assorted Kauai Images.
