Cheyenne sits at a weird location. Being in the extreme southeast corner of the state, it does not follow the traditional central location usually followed for state capitol locations. The success of the trans continental railroad that has kept the town alive is the reason the capitol location is here, despite other proposals.
Cheyenne's existence was questioned as many towns on the trans-continental railroad were given the title "hell on wheels" due to towns disappearing once construction went further. However, Cheyenne's almost central location on the trans-continental railroad has allowed it to continue thriving and experiencing a mild growth rate, even in the 2020s.
