The end of an era.
Lionel Messi officially announced his retirement from the Argentina national team today, bringing one of the greatest international careers in the history of the game to a close.
Having the opportunity to photograph Messi during this year’s World Cup was something I’ll never forget. From the walk onto the pitch, to the action, celebrations and quieter moments in between, it was incredible documenting one of the greatest players to ever play the game.
Here are a few of my favorite images from his final World Cup wearing the Argentina shirt.
He may be finished with international football, but thankfully we’ll still get to see No. 10 on the pitch with Inter Miami.

Senior Night at home — and a Royse City win. 🏐

The Lady Bulldogs celebrated their seniors with a win over Rowlett in front of the home crowd.

I wanted to approach this one a little differently and focus on more than just the action at the net — the emotion, movement, teammates, coaches and crowd that make high school sports special.

Congratulations to Royse City Volleyball and especially the seniors on a great Senior Night!

What does it take to photograph a World Cup match?

A lot more than just showing up when the game starts.

For this match, I arrived at the stadium four hours before kickoff. From the mandatory coffee stop and getting through security, to catching up with photographer friends, attending the photo meeting, setting up my remote camera behind the goal, and covering the pre-match ceremonies, there’s a lot that happens before the first whistle.

Then it’s time to settle into position and tell the story of the match through my lens.

The match lasts 90 minutes, but the work starts hours before and continues long after the final whistle.

My first FIFA World Cup match is officially in the books.

As photographers, we’re often our own toughest critics, and I walked away feeling like I could have done better. But that’s part of the process—always learning, always looking for ways to improve.

Thankfully, a few images from the match were picked up, including by ESPN, which made for a pretty memorable first World Cup assignment.

Japan vs. Netherlands was an incredible match to start with, and it was a reminder of why I love sports photography—the emotion, passion, and unpredictable moments that unfold in front of the lens.

Now it’s time to recharge, review, and get ready for match #2 on Wednesday: England vs. Croatia.

One down, eight to go.

One of my favorite events to cover each year is NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championship. I tell everyone if you haven’t been to one, you should definitely go. The intensity, emotion, and drama in each session is unlike any other sport. Congratulations to taking home their 8th Championship.
