It is always such a privilege to get to photograph the weddings of couples that I have some history with. It has been such a joy getting to know Matt & Mckenna and watch them begin this new journey together. Here is a little sneak peek from their wedding day!

I am feeling a little nostalgic with my move to Austin inches closer, but there is just something so special about summer weddings in Wyoming. I absolutely loved being a part of Alyssa and Carson's wedding day. It was so much fun to watch them start this new journey surrounded by friends and family who deeply cherish them. Congratulations you two!

One of my favorite parts about motherhood has been documenting my kids as they grow and change over the months and years. Over the years have I tried to take the classic monthly portrait of each of my kids in their first year and to snap photos as fun memories arise.

Not surprisingly, Ellie B. has grown tired of having a camera in her face and doesn’t often let me take her photo anymore.

But to my joy, she tolerated and even posed for a few photos the other day. Isn’t it funny how kids often do what we want them to if we give them a little space?

This spunky little girl who loves dress up, dinosaurs, popsicles, chase and wrestling is full of surprises. She makes my heart explode and it is such a privilege to get to watch her grow up ❤️

Photographers, imagine this…

It is winter and you have an engagement session scheduled and in the week leading up to the shoot, snow covers the ground and temperatures drop below zero. Your couple has traveled in from out of town and doesn’t have the ability or desire to reschedule their session for a warmer date.

There is the potential that the session could be completely miserable for everyone involved if your aren’t prepared.

Here are my top five tips to rock your session even when circumstances aren’t in your favor:

1. Communicate with your clients beforehand about what to expect at their session. Encourage them to choose warm clothing or to bring blankets or hot beverages to stay warm between shots.
* cozy blankets and cute mugs can double as props

2. Scout out the location beforehand so that you aren’t wandering around too long in the cold

3. Make sure that you are confident in the fundamentals (lighting, camera settings, posing and composition). This will help you to capture amazing photos efficiently and confidently

4. Engage with your clients. Ask them questions, give them prompts and tell jokes while posing them or walking to different locations to help keep everyone’s attitudes positive and to keep their minds off of any potential discomfort.

5. Listen to you clients. You may have planned on the session lasting a certain amount of time, but be willing to end the session early if your couple is ready to tap out so that they can warm up.

More often than not, I leave sessions wishing that we had more time together. Last night was one of those was one of those times. The light, the colors and Cameron and Bianca's natural chemistry were all SO GOOD! Ugh, I wish the session could have gone on for another hour, but we were also freezing our tails off, so it probably good to wrap it up when we did.

I also just want to take a quick moment to encourage anyone who is getting ready for a photo session and is super nervous about posing in front of the camera.

First, just know that it is your photographer's job to guide you in posing and to make you look good. No model experience required.😉

Second, relax and be yourself. Interact with your partner and family the way that you normally would. Talk to each other, tease, and hold each other the way that you would in any other normal moment of the day. I almost guarantee that those natural interactions will photograph better than any pose your photographer could put you in and your photos will be more genuine.

Have a great weekend!

Two weeks ago, I missed a wedding for the first time since opening my business 7 years ago.

The night before Keith & Tiffany’s wedding, I started feeling sick (sore throat, body aches, super tired, etc.) so I decided to take an at home Covid test just to be safe. My heart absolutely sank when I saw that faint pink positive appear. It was the worst feeling ever!

Thankfully Megan was willing to step in for me last minute and made magic happen, while Tiffany and Keith handled my news with such kindness and grace. Talk about a super humbling moment!

This morning I am just sitting her so incredibly thankful for the support of other photographers in my community and the privilege of getting to work with such incredible clients ❤️
