Hi friends! I wanted to take a moment and make a little announcement here. The past few months of shooting births have been absolutely amazing. I have learned so much and my love of photography has only grown. With that, it is my hope that I can begin to expand and challenge myself as a new photographer. I want to be able to offer family, maternity, and newborn shoots, while continuing to focus on birth and staying a part of this phenomenal birthing community. 🧡 I'll be changing this account name to Melia Tanner Photography, and I hope you will follow along! As for Facebook, I've had violations on my page since May for a birth photo they deemed inappropriate, and with this have been unable to promote the page or see any tags under my name, so perhaps a new page will be in the works soon. But aside from this, I am so excited for all that (hopefully) is to come! It is a scary leap but I can not thank you enough for your support and kind words, and sharing in this journey with me!

You have everything you need. You are safe. You are loved. You are strong. You are so capable. These are the words I hear softly spoken over laboring women by their midwives, doulas and support. These words echo through me when I leave a birth, they stay with me for days. The same is true, I'm sure, for others in such a birth space. These words I wish for every new mother, every anxious parent. Birth teaches us. We can do hard and marvelous things.

"This was a special altar that started with our first embryo transfer and continued through my labor(s) (false and real). The last remnants of the candle is burning down 4 days after Will was born. It is a special combination of Texas and San Francisco, and bits of magic and sparkle collected spontaneously over the years. I never planned to have the baby in my room, but maybe we were supposed to be gathered as a special group of women under the protection of this collection." -

Words have been failing me as I've tried to adequately describe what it was like to photograph this mother, surrounded by nothing but women, dig deep in labor to bring life into her sister's arms. Love felt deep, and big, and endless, and it was extraordinary.

Hi! It's been a while but I'm still here, I promise! I've been busy working on something really, really special...two weeks ago I had the honor of capturing a mother give birth to her sister's baby, surrounded by women, in the comfort of her own home. 🧡 I cannot wait to share a few images from this birth...it was as spectacular and amazing as it sounds, I was sobbing halfway through the gallery edits. 🤣😍 This was sneak peek ... sweet big brother pup keeping blankets warm for the coming baby.✨
