Lately I’ve been thinking about how easy it is to look at a photo and immediately think

Is it trendy?
Is it gonna get me seen?
Is it how everyone else is shooting it?

And I think we forget that, before any of that mattered, photograph was just a little way of keeping something.

A day.
A person.
A feeling you knew you wouldn’t get back.

Maybe the photo doesn’t need to fit the trend.
Maybe it just needs to fit the memory. 🤍

I remember when I first started photographing families and thinking, how am I ever going to move away from posing and the awkwardness of standing there trying to figure out what to do next.

It wasn’t until I let go of the feeling of having to fill the quiet with noise and taking a step back and letting a family just be themselves did I start to see.

A perfect picture is about movement, taking a different approach, finding the details. Focusing on the people themselves as they are. The mannerism, how they interact. Not being afraid to tell them to do something over. Because you saw the way they brushed the hair out of their loved one’s face.

Leaning into the art. Letting go of what society directs us to see.

I’ve been photographing families for 8 years and Something I’ve noticed more and more as a photographer is parents choosing privacy of their children.

And I get it, with the rapid growth of AI it is changing how far and what is done with an image. Wanting to keep a little more of your child off the internet makes sense.

But it’s also challenged me creatively in a way.

It has taught me to look closer.
It’s made me more intentional.

Because I still want to share my art. I still want people to see the stories I am lucky enough to document.

Im just learning that I don’t need to show everything to tell the whole story.

And maybe there’s something really beautiful about that.
