There's something so quiet about the newborn days that's hard to put into words until you're actually in them.

This little guy came into the studio just days old and slept through almost the entire session, completely content. Wrapped in soft white, curled up, totally at ease. And in between the sleepy stretches were the tiniest yawns, the smallest expressions, the details that feel so permanent in the moment and then somehow slip away faster than you expect.

Watching his parents hold him was one of those things you just feel in the room. That shift that happens when you realize your whole life has quietly reorganized itself around this one small person. They were so present with him. So calm. It was a beautiful morning.

First babies hold something really special. Everything is new. Everything matters. And these images will be part of their family story for a long time.

If you are expecting or have a newborn at home and have been thinking about documenting this season, I would love to connect. Sessions book a few months in advance, so reaching out early is always a good idea.

Sweet Jean Photography is a fine art newborn, maternity, and family studio located in Downtown Roseville, serving the greater Sacramento area.

You don’t need to wait until.

Not until the weight is gone.
Not until life feels calmer.
Not until they can sit still.

Your children don’t see what you’re worried about.
They see the place they belong.

This season matters.
You matter—right now.

I hear it so often from mothers:
“I just want to wait until…”

Until the weight is gone.
Until life feels calmer.
Until they can sit still.

But motherhood doesn’t wait.
And neither does the way your children see you.

They don’t see what you’re picking apart.
They see home.
They see comfort.
They see the arms they run to and the love they’ve always known.

This season—messy, tender, fleeting—is worthy of being remembered.

If this resonates, I invite you to join my email list. It’s where I share first access and details for my annual Motherhood Event, created to honor mothers exactly as they are.

There is something profoundly grounding about these first days.
The world slows. Time feels suspended. Everything becomes about holding, learning, loving.
This session was a reminder of why I do this work. Not just to document how small they were, but how deeply they were loved from the very beginning.
These are the images that will one day be looked back on and felt, not just seen.

Pregnancy is a threshold. A space between what has been and what is about to unfold.
A woman stands there holding both herself and another life, carrying strength and softness in equal measure.

When I photograph maternity, I’m not just documenting a growing belly. I’m honoring a moment of becoming, a quiet transformation filled with anticipation, vulnerability, and immense love. This season is fleeting, but its meaning is timeless.

These photographs are not just for today. They are for the years ahead, for the moment when your children grow older and look back, searching for you. They will see how you held them, how your body instinctively protected theirs, how deeply you belonged together.

I often think about that future version of them, pausing with an image in their hands, finding comfort in what it proves. That they were loved. That they were safe. That they were held with intention and care. These photographs become a quiet anchor, something solid to return to when memories begin to blur.

That is why this work matters so much to me. I am not simply taking pictures. I am preserving connection. I am honoring the small, sacred gestures of motherhood that so often pass unnoticed in the rush of everyday life.

Long after this season has changed, these images will remain. Holding you there, steady and present, exactly as you were in this fleeting and beautiful chapter. 🤍

January gives me permission to pause. To look back on a year filled with connection, quiet moments, and stories that were entrusted to me. As I step into the final year of my forties, I reflect on the families I welcomed, the babies I held, and the quiet, meaningful moments that unfolded in front of my lens last year. This work continues to remind me how fleeting these seasons truly are — and how important it is to honor them while we can.

This newborn session is one I’ll carry with me forever.

This kind, funny, and loving couple traveled across the ocean to complete their family through an extraordinary surrogacy journey. Their baby girl was carried by a dear friend of mine, someone I’ve been honored to photograph through all of her pregnancies, making this experience incredibly meaningful on both a personal and professional level.

Surrogacy is layered — full of trust, vulnerability, patience, and deep love. Photographing this family felt like witnessing the culmination of all of that, wrapped into one tiny, perfect human.

Every family deserves to have their story preserved with care and respect. It is an honor to photograph families formed in all the beautiful ways life allows.

If you’re welcoming a baby and want an experience that feels calm, inclusive, and deeply meaningful, I’d love to connect.

As Christmas draws near, I find myself lingering on these moments just a little longer 🤍
The quiet magic. The wide-eyed wonder. The way childhood feels so full and fleeting all at once.

These Santa Sessions weren’t about perfection, they were about belief, connection, and preserving a season of life that passes far too quickly. I’m so honored to be trusted with these memories year after year.

If you were part of this year’s Santa magic, thank you for inviting me into your family’s story. And if you’re watching this with a full heart, I hope it reminds you to soak in every last bit of the wonder while it’s here.

Wishing you a Christmas filled with warmth, presence, and a little bit of magic ✨
