Photo of my room and unappetizing lunch for interest. (The food is not good, sadly… ☹️)
I’ve been off the grid for a lot of the summer/fall, as I’m starting to be able to think again, it seemed like time to post. I had what we thought was just sciatica in my left leg in June. I figured lots of rest and stretching would help. It didn’t. After living with it getting progressively worse (much, much worse) and going to the dr. and the chiropractor, I ended up in the emergency room over a week ago with the worst pain I’ve felt in my life. After a CT they sent me to Medford for emergency back surgery. I have developed Stage 4 Breast cancer which had metastasized to my spine. The tumor was destroying my vertebrae and I had come unattached at the pelvis. The Dr. told my Dad he had no idea how I was still walking.
My amazing surgeon did emergency surgery that night, installing a cage and anchoring my spine to my pelvis. While the outcome had been potentially quite bad, everything went right and I have been recovering from th surgery with the help of an amazing staff and lots of medication. (I was pretty out of it for about a week.)
We have just started PT, which currently consists of me shuffling short distances with a walker. But every day is better. I should be going back to Roseburg hopefully tomorrow for rehab for a few weeks, during which we will be figuring out what will be happening with the studio. If walking is taking too long, I’ll be shooting from a wheelchair for a little while until I feel safe. Hopefully I will be back shooting in Nov.
For my amazing clients, I have my laptop with me and am continuing to work as I’m able. I should have a solution for everyone so nobody misses out.
Thank you to everybody who has messaged me. It might seem like a small thing, but I means a lot.
I’m looking forward to figuring out what normal is going to be to be.
