Reminder for my photographer friends:)

Had a client drive 3 hours one way to shoot with me yesterday afternoon. Got home, loaded my sd card to the reader and nothing. Stuck it back in the camera and got this. Lucky for me, I had my backup card in my dual slot and we are good to go. If I hadn’t been prepared then I would be crying and stressing today! I’ve only had a card go bad on me one other time in my photography career and trust me, it is not a position you want to find yourself in! Take the time before the busy session starts and clear off all those cards and backup all your stuff! Come October, you won’t have time!

One of my favorite things about this job is being invited into people’s special moments — and sometimes, into places that hold a little piece of their story.
I’ve heard about how beautiful this spot is for years, but seeing it for myself in the early morning light was something special. The soft glow of the sun, the quiet, and the peacefulness before most of the world was even stirring made this session one I won’t forget.
And, of course, we couldn’t not do some at Curtis’s special spot… the football field! 🏈 Because when it’s your happy place, it deserves a few photos, too.
So grateful to be trusted with these moments and to get a glimpse into the places that mean the most to my clients.

I’m only a couple of years late sharing these… 2.5 years to be exact. I recently saw this sweet couple and their new baby boy and decided it was time to share.

I never shared this session because, honestly, I was a little nervous about the folks on social media being their crazy selves. So before we get to the pretty pictures, let me clear a few things up:
🔥 This was a pre-planned field burn. I did NOT light a field on fire for a photoshoot. This burn was happening with or without us.
🚒 The local fire department and fire truck were on site.
🔥 Neither the couple nor I were ever in the path of the fire. The fire was moving in the opposite direction from where we were shooting.
Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way… let me tell you how this idea came about.
I had dreamed up this concept for a while, but I needed to find the right couple to pull it off. Then Jasper and his fiancé mentioned doing engagement photos, and I immediately knew they were the ones! Jasper is a member of the fire department, so it couldn’t have been a better fit. Then we waited.......several months if I remember correctly, until a local farmer needed to burn a field off to clear it and he agreed to let us do my crazy idea.
And let me tell you… this was one of those shoots where the idea in my head and the reality were just a little different.
I learned VERY quickly that fire moves a whole lot faster than I had anticipated. There was absolutely no time for carefully posing and adjusting every little detail. It was more like, “Okay, stand HERE… NOW MOVE… QUICK!” 😂
Looking back, there are definitely things I would do differently. If I were shooting this session today, I would go over several poses with the couple beforehand so we could move through them quickly without scrambling quite so much.
But honestly? That unpredictability is part of what makes these images so special to me.
Two people who trusted me with a crazy idea, a controlled burn, a fire truck, and about 30 seconds of “LET’S GET THE SHOT!” 😂
2.5 years later, I think they were worth finally sharing. ❤️🔥📸

These probably don’t even come close to mine (except maybe lighting a field on fire - fire department was present!🤪) Photographers (or anyone really) I want to know - What’s the craziest thing you’ve done for a good shot? I’ll buy Starbucks for the one with the craziest answer!

Good luck to all the local teams starting their seasons tonight! Go Tigers!

I played around with a hundred and one different edits for this but kept going back to plain jane black and white. Somehow it just seems to fit.

August is for creek sessions! We took a break from this heat and went on an adventure to the creek. I had worked with Jessica Lovett before but this was the first time meeting her sweet family. They were up for anything and somehow we all managed to stay dry til after pics! Loved how they all turned out!

Sunflowers have bloomed! We weren’t sure if they were going to make this year or not but I got a nice surprise when I went to check them. Shoot me a message if you’d be interested in a quick session this week!
