Quick two-flash setup for a headshot flyer going out for next weekend’s tournament.

One of the biggest things that separates flash photography from an iPhone shot is the catch light in the eyes. That tiny reflection adds depth, dimension, and a little sparkle that makes a portrait feel alive.

I missed my friends Terry and Rick because I wasn't able to leave early enough for the beach. Shot this one off US1 by Kennedy Point Park. This United Launch Alliance Atlas V headed out on a NE trajectory to deliver 29 satellites for Amazon LEO (a competitor to Starlink).

Because of the short time after sunset, there's a bit of a visible jellyfish on this one. It was cool to see the boosters peel off on this one as well. My son also joined me for this shoot; he's ordered a wider lens to make sure he gets the full arc in the future (18mm isn't wide enough to get the full arc from this distance).

There's a nice catamaran that stayed relatively still that we were able to get the arc shot over. Waters were too choppy for a nice reflection.

I'm late to the game for Artemis II, but I was able to see it live and up close from about 13 miles away. Had a good friend (thanks Dan!) save me a spot out on the pier. Not much great about these shots.

The booster separation in the second pic was really neat to see through a 1000mm zoom. Hard to believe this one has four astronauts headed to the moon!

Intentionally overexposed the launch this morning to maximize the detail in the expected jellyfish. The colors were phenomenal; something surreal for those that were able to experience this SpaceX Starlink 10-40 launch at 0552 on March 4th.

Yes, liftoff across the river was blown out, and until Canon USA figures out how to let us go ƒ/11 for 50 seconds and then hit ƒ/5 on a single bulb exposure, my only option would be two photos overlayed during this 6.5 minute exposre. This is the Canon USA RF 10-20 rectilinear lens on a Canon R3.

I'm going to call this one "Over the Cat (amaran)" as it perfectly goes over the main mast when the second stage splits the uprights. Re-entry burn can be seen through the clouds dead center of the two mainmasts. (Look at me, sailing terms 🤣!)

Had some fun on Cocoa Beach last night waiting out a Falcon 9 launch from SLC-40 as SpaceX pushed another 28 satellites into orbit to support their Starlink constellation. My photography friends Terry and Rick hung out with me while my daughter sat patiently as if this were a photo from the early 1800s.

It's always fun to have subjects in the foreground; the Cocoa Beach Pier and a teenager providing light and dark contrast respectively. You see the booster re-entry on the far right which happened at T+ 6:20 (just prior to the cutoff of my 6:30 timer). The milky white ocean appears still in the long exposure just beyond the sandy beaches.

Space is fascinating.

How about a Crew-12 launch that returns back to a brand new landing pad at LC40 on Friday the 13th? With Artemis on 39A anticipating the use of their crew arm for returning to the moon, SpaceX needed another pad with a crew arm. So they built out LC40, complete with the ability to load crew in the Dragon capsule for a trip to the ISS.

Had to go a bit north for this one to get a proper arc. A rising moon can be seen on the right while the Falcon 9 takes off through the Max Brewer Bridge. After MECO and stage separation, the 2nd flight for this booster flipped around, completed a boostback burn, re-entry burn, and then finally a landing burn right next to where it started at LZ40 for the first time in history. LZ-1 area was reassigned to other providers.

Really cool reflections in the water from the various lights and buildings. I love the way the rocks frame out the bottom of the image and the nice channel marker in the middle. Star trails can be seen in the fairly clear skies we had down here on the space coast. What a beautiful morning for a launch!

This is a 5 strobe light setup with 36" stadium grid boxes, yellow gel, 16x48", and 48" soft-box setup. Takes about 90 minutes to set up the backdrop, strobes, modifiers, c-stands, and camera.

I almost always try to get the entire image in camera (I don't add backgrounds in post), but in this case I shot an extra photo (no phones) to superimpose on the girls holding up the phones to take a picture of these two seniors. Congrats Ladies!

Do not adjust the colors on your TV set - this was a long exposure taken 30 minutes after sunset of Starlink 6-100 (Falcon 9 Block 5) dropping another 29 satellites into LEO on January 18th, 2026.

Lots of daytime launches as of late, so I'm thankful to have one to shoot at night to try out my new Canon USA Rectilinear 10-20mm F4 lens before Artemis II scrubs a few times and launches.

I had to shoot this one a bit more closed up than usual due to excess light, so it was shot at an aperture of 20 for five and a half minutes at 10mm. Completely undistorted as this is not a fisheye lens.

It's a new year and I've had several requests for a 2026 calendar. I finally put one together - they are $22 for the 2026 calendar.
Let me know if you are interested and I'll get one sent out! These represent Space Coast launches during 2025 from Blue Origin, SpaceX, and ULA.

Had a few people over to ring in 2026, and what would ringing in the new year be without a photo shoot?

Multiple flash with props shoot where I edited 20 individual pics in Adobe Lightroom before combining them into one layered image in Adobe Photoshop What else would one do while waiting to ring in the new year?
