10 years ago I had just graduated from and was working as an assistant at a dental office before I started dental school in the fall. It seemed like the fulfillment of a dream at the time, but little did I know that 2 years later I’d be saying goodbye to dentistry and hello to motherhood.
I won’t pretend that transition wasn’t hard. It was terrifying. Walking into dental school to withdraw that freezing January day was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but ultimately the best.
A few months later, we had our first baby girl, but the transition to motherhood was hard. Setting down the dream of a professional career and picking up the dream of motherhood wasn’t as easy as I had hoped and I sunk into a depression that lasted for over a year. Out of the blue one day I got a message from congratulating me on living my dream. At first I thought she was kidding, but as I kept reading she reminded me of a conversation we had freshman year of college. I had completely forgotten about it until she reminded me, but I had confided that what I really wanted was to be a mom, but that I’d be a dentist until that worked out. Isn’t it amazing how easily we can get wrapped up in our own “good” plans and forget about the things that really matter to us? What a gift that sweet reminder was. ❤️
Since then we bought our 130 yo house, had another fireball of a girl, made renovation plans, changed them, changed them again, moved to Georgia, had another hilarious girl, started Logan Schenck Photography, renovated a guest cottage, moved back to Florida, and went back to the drawing board again for the main house. 🤪
3 years ago we started the construction part of our house and this is finally the year that it will be finished. Oh, & we moved into the (1 br) guest cottage we renovated.🙈 we thought we would be here 6-8 months... everything takes longer than you think it will when renovating a 130 yo house. 😬
This past year I’ve had the joy of watching my business grow in ways I wanted it to so badly when it first began 4 years ago. I’m so grateful for God’s perfect timing & the support of amazing family, friends & clients. Thank you! ❤
