So interesting to see what sunlight does to prints from professional and consumer labs! ☀️ 🏞 I was definitely surprised by some of the results!

What’s the best photo paper money can buy? When I couldn’t get the answer, I channeled my inner scientist to create a controlled experiment and find out. The results may surprise you …

As we’re all aware, due to the executive order, all non-essential businesses are to remain closed at this time. This means that for Florida (and many other states) photographers, for example, can’t shoot sessions without potential fines or other consequences.(business license revoked, liability insurance not valid).
If you are asking a non-essential business service provider to provide service to you, please know that we want to say yes—but we can’t. With handling babies, newborn/baby/family photographers have always had your safety at a high priority and will continue to do so.
As soon as non-essential businesses are allowed to operate, we’ll be here and we need your support.

10 years ago I had just graduated from and was working as an assistant at a dental office before I started dental school in the fall. It seemed like the fulfillment of a dream at the time, but little did I know that 2 years later I’d be saying goodbye to dentistry and hello to motherhood.

I won’t pretend that transition wasn’t hard. It was terrifying. Walking into dental school to withdraw that freezing January day was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but ultimately the best.

A few months later, we had our first baby girl, but the transition to motherhood was hard. Setting down the dream of a professional career and picking up the dream of motherhood wasn’t as easy as I had hoped and I sunk into a depression that lasted for over a year. Out of the blue one day I got a message from congratulating me on living my dream. At first I thought she was kidding, but as I kept reading she reminded me of a conversation we had freshman year of college. I had completely forgotten about it until she reminded me, but I had confided that what I really wanted was to be a mom, but that I’d be a dentist until that worked out. Isn’t it amazing how easily we can get wrapped up in our own “good” plans and forget about the things that really matter to us? What a gift that sweet reminder was. ❤️

Since then we bought our 130 yo house, had another fireball of a girl, made renovation plans, changed them, changed them again, moved to Georgia, had another hilarious girl, started Logan Schenck Photography, renovated a guest cottage, moved back to Florida, and went back to the drawing board again for the main house. 🤪

3 years ago we started the construction part of our house and this is finally the year that it will be finished. Oh, & we moved into the (1 br) guest cottage we renovated.🙈 we thought we would be here 6-8 months... everything takes longer than you think it will when renovating a 130 yo house. 😬

This past year I’ve had the joy of watching my business grow in ways I wanted it to so badly when it first began 4 years ago. I’m so grateful for God’s perfect timing & the support of amazing family, friends & clients. Thank you! ❤

Let’s talk digital files. Did you know I’ve never had a client purchase only digital files, and most families end up getting them complimentary with their finished artwork? It’s true!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I think most families start off wanting digital files because they know how overwhelming it can be to figure out what to print and what size, format, etc. to print. Digital files give you time to explore the multitude of options-I get it!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you knew that you would love what you end up selecting to print, your album would be worthy of the coffee table and built to last, your wall portraits would be the right size, hung in just the right spot, at the correct height with a plan of how the arrangement will grow and change as your family grows and changes, and professionally framed to withstand the test of time...would you still just want digitals?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you got all those things, wouldn’t you enjoy your family photos more than “just having the digitals” in a drawer somewhere with the hopes that one day you’ll feel inspired enough and have the time to actually print and display them?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If this is you, I want to help. If you’d like to see if we’re a good fit, fill out the contact form via the link in my profile. I’d love to help get your family memories out it of a drawer and onto your walls and coffee table. ❤️

Happy Friday! 🎉 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4 quick facts about me:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. I grew up in The Netherlands and haven’t been back since we moved 16 years ago. I still miss it & feel like a part of me never left. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. Although I usually have a general idea of what I want, I appreciate when businesses hold my hand and guide me through making multifaceted decisions, which is why I try to do the same for my clients. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. We have 4 chickens (Ella, Dottie, Fluff, and Miss Kay). For some reason Miss Kay feels very threatened by my legs and make a habit of charging them when I let her out. 🙄 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4. I always swore I would NEVER homeschool my kids... I homeschool my kids. Motherhood has a way of humbling us. 😅⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Is there anything else you’d like to know about me or my business? I’m an open book, ask away!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Hey mama! If you are pregnant and due in 2020 now is the time to book!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Maternity sessions are generally scheduled between 32 and 36 weeks. For newborn sessions I use baby’s due date as a place holder in my calendar, and we usually shift it forward or backward once baby arrives. I recommend booking as soon as you know you’d like me to be your photographer. (I currently am expecting client babies in June and July, so it’s never too early to book- I’m a great secret keeper! 😉)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you’re still exploring who you’d like to photograph your growing family, send me an email or schedule a call via my website (link in profile). I’d love to chat with you to see if we’re a good fit! 👶🏼 ❤️

Did you know your baby's photographer should have training in how to safely handle and pose newborns? Yep!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If done incorrectly, certain poses can block baby's airway or allow them or their head to fall (I'm looking at you head propped up on hands! Spoiler: when done safely, it is a composite of 2 photos where an adult is holding and stabilizing baby's head!).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For newborn sessions I let the baby lead; it's amazing how much of their little personalities they will reveal so early on when we let them! ❤️ Most babies enjoy being swaddled, so we usually end up with those sweet snuggly shots, but if baby wants to spread out and stretch, we let them do it!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Regardless of which photographer your choose and whether they have very posed or more organic newborn sessions, make sure they are trained to properly pose and handle your precious new bundle. It goes beyond knowing how to hold a baby. 😉

As much as we may try (especially around the holidays!) it seems that the things are kiddos remember the most fondly aren’t perfectly planned moments. 😆 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My favorite childhood Christmas memory was one Christmas Eve when we lived in The Netherlands. We had just moved into our new house that day or the day before and we didn’t have a tree, so while my mom kept unpacking, my dad took my brother and me to find a tree. Unlike our 24/7 Walmarts in the US, almost everything was shut down in the Netherlands. 😬 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We found a Christmas tree lot adjacent to one of the few restaurants that was open, found a tree and went in to pay. We were surprised when we were told the trees had been left and we could pick any tree we wanted. 🥳⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
After some very determined negotiation (read: begging; we totally begged), we convinced my dad to let us have the biggest tree on the lot. It was at least 14’. One end stuck out the back of our van while the other end poked out the front passenger window. I’m not quite sure how we fit back in the car. 😂 😂 😂 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When we got home my mom was surprised to put it mildly. After cutting a few feet off each end (my brother and I protested, but it would not fit upright despite our very tall ceilings) we unboxed the decorations we could find and decorated that giant tree. I don’t remember my brother and I ever feeling more proud. 🤩 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I would love to know, what is your favorite holiday memory? Was it planned, a tradition or spontaneous?

Cliches are cliches for a reason. "They grow up so fast." is one that's been rolling around in my mind lately. I vividly remember when Avery (7.5) was 9 months old like this little guy. ❤️ I felt like I had so much time.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Now her top front teeth are loose & for some reason that seems like such a big milestone. I think we all encounter moments as parents where we can almost feel our kids growing up right in front of our eyes & for me this is one. 😢⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Capture the moments and get them printed so when they're 7 & losing their front teeth or 16 & learning to drive you can curl up on the couch with that big baby to flip through and remember.

Someone recently asked me how many clients I've had that haven't liked their pictures. I was a little surprised by the question, but didn't mind answering. Before I reveal it, I'm curious to know how many do you think there have been? share below. 🙃⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Okay, did you guess??⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One. There's been 1. It was one of my very first clients & it quickly became clear when I was delivering her photographs that her vision and my style weren't a good artistic match.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What she wanted was old-school style posed portraits complete with her sweet girl in oversized pearls & her little guy on one knee with flowers. What she got was her kiddos playing in a field of Christmas trees. 🌲🌲🌲⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Was there anything wrong with her vision? No! But am I the best person to pull that off? Also no.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
📞You may have heard me mention scheduling a quick call & this is why. I want to get to know you and hear about what your vision is for your photographs. If your vision would be best executed by someone else I will tell you!! I want you to LOVE the final outcome.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
