Felt only appropriate to put this photo a sweet song of Dolly’s as we learned of her passing during the Yesteryear Retreats and got to listen to all of her tunes play through the camp grounds that day. Clementine was our model for golden hour and it was absolute magic.

How has it been over a week since we arrived in the amazing place called Camp Wandawega and we’re already home and moving on with life? 😭

I just had to hug this beautiful soul goodbye at the airport and I am not okay. 😭 8 days ago I picked Lizzie Dove | Photographer & Newborn Zero Birthday Celebrations up at O’Hare International Airport and met her face to face for the very first time. We originally met in an online workshop called The Artist’s Eye, taught by Meg Loeks where we learned so many things and watched each other have a huge growth spurt during that time. Somehow we just clicked and then what started out as compliments on each other’s images grew into friendship I never knew I’d need so bad. The workshop ended and daily messages were exchanged. Pretty soon it was WEIRD to not hear from her everyday. Then Meg announced a retreat in a place I have so badly yearned to visit and stay. Camp Wandawega

I casually mentioned to Lizzie that if she had any interest in coming to the states to meet Meg, Elizabeth Blank and Vanessa Rivera that I would happily pick her up from ORD and host her time here. Before I knew it she said YOLO and the rest was history.

The build up to meeting each other was immense. And we quickly found out after she got here so how well we synced. We shared almost identical views and thoughts on…everything. And for 8 amazing days we got to laugh, cry, play, create, learn and just overall have an amazing time. This was a time I will cherish and hold close to my heart forever. Lizzie, I can’t say thank you enough. For your time, your energy, your humor, your love, the mothering you did for my kids and the beautiful gifts you brought them. I miss you already. You probably aren’t even at your gate yet. But I hope you know that until we meet again (hopefully next time when we come to Australia) that a piece of me is traveling back with you!! You’re amazing. Keep kicking butt at life and take no s**t!

Spilling The Tea! There’s always something happening at Camp Wandawega on those hot summer days! Keeping cool in the kitchen can come with its own surprises! We had way too much fun creating this set in the Bunk House 💛

We used two Profoto B10X Plus lights. One just outside the window to enhance that bright early morning summer sun and another inside with a 3’ octa soft box.

We implemented all we’ve learned from Loeks and her amazing color workshops as well as taking newly learned education from the Yesteryear Retreats.

Thank you to my partner in crime, the now Lucy to my Ethel Dove for humoring me when I said “that darn kitchen keeps calling to me…let’s go there!” And then together creating MAGIC! It truly was the best gift to be able to take both of our ideas and our knowledge and work together to bring these images to life!

Broken elbow or broken heart? 💔 We’ll let you guess! 😘😉

It’s almost information and creativity overload as Lizzie Dove | Photographer & Newborn Zero Birthday Celebrations and I sit and decompress and just take in what an absolutely stellar time we had at the Yesteryear Retreats the last four days. I’m out of positive adjectives to describe how wonderful everything was. Our instructors Meg Loeks Elizabeth Blank and Vanessa Rivera had me walking away renewed with new knowledge gained and important information absorbed. I needed this…to disconnect to reconnect. The environment Camp Wandawega could not have offered more either. Everywhere you looked you could pull inspiration and find something to shoot with or around.

Getting to create and play next to other like minded women too…we all think the same way…we all want the same things…we all need these outlets for who we are as people, mothers, wives, friends. This is what makes us…US!

I’m going to be riding this high for many, many weeks. 🥹 More images to come…and I really mean that!
