“When Nature Slows Down”

There are moments in landscape photography when nature delivers something completely different from what you expected - and somehow, it’s even better. That was the case at Shequaga Falls, tucked in the heart of Montour Falls in New York’s Finger Lakes region. I arrived hoping for a strong, dramatic waterflow, the kind that turns a long exposure into silky white ribbons. Instead, the falls were running softer, quieter… but that gentler flow revealed a surprise worth every mile of the trip.

With less water rushing over the rock face, the vibrant orange stone beneath the cascade came alive. It glowed through the falling water like a warm ember, creating a striking contrast against the deep reds, golds, and ambers of peak autumn. What I thought would be a compromise turned into the highlight of the entire shoot.

This visit was a reminder that in the Finger Lakes, even low‑flow days can deliver unforgettable moments. Sometimes the best details appear when nature slows down.

“A photographer’s greatest gift is noticing what others walk past.” – Rowan Hale

“Jasper’s Frozen Angel”

Tucked against the rugged face of Mount Edith Cavell, Angel Glacier feels like stepping into another world. The air is crisp, the silence deep, and the glacier itself hangs like a frozen wing suspended in time.

Reflecting on that moment is a quiet reminder of just how vast, powerful, and astonishing our world can be.

If you ever find yourself in Jasper National Park, take the climb to see this angelic beauty. The vastness of the landscape, the stillness of the moment, and the sheer scale of the glacier come together in a way that feels almost unreal – an experience that lingers long after you’ve left.

“Where the glacier meets the sky, the land ceases to be earthly, and the earth becomes one with the heavens.” – Halldór Laxness

“Swan Song”

I’m looking forward to another visit to the Lake Mattamuskeet Wildlife Refuge. Never in my life have I witnessed such an extraordinary gathering of birds.

Each winter, as the season settles over the Tar Heel State, Lake Mattamuskeet transforms into something truly magical. The state’s largest natural lake becomes the temporary home to a breathtaking sight: thousands of Alaska tundra swans converging in one place for the winter.

At 18 miles long and seven miles wide, Lake Mattamuskeet outranks all other natural bodies of water when it comes to size. It's also one of the most beautiful lakes in the state.

“A swan is a creature of quiet dignity; it floats through the world as if it has nothing to prove.” – E.B. White

“Heart of the Gorge”

This was such a peaceful morning in Watkins Glen State Park as I found myself alone at Rainbow Falls.

The sound of the water was the only conversation that echoed softly through the stone walls of the gorge. As the first light slipped over the bridge and into the mist, everything felt suspended as if the day was waiting to begin. For a few rare moments, the entire place belonged to the morning and me.

From our family to yours, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

A river cuts through rock, not because of its power, but because of its persistence.” – Jim Watkins
