A few months ago, I was emailed about doing preschool photo days at a local daycare.
What started as a simple “would you be interested?” quickly turned into me brainstorming ways to make it feel special, because if you’ve followed me for any length of time, you know I know how to be extra. 😂
I bought flowers to brighten up the space we’d be photographing in.
I brought fave music, lens buddies, and every toddler distraction I could think of.
I made little bookmarks on Canva and attached them to rubber ducks because I wanted every child to leave with something fun — not just the ones getting photos.
And then there was the little rocking chair.
The chair was a gift from our late friend Gloria when Liam was born. 🤍 Since then, it’s held both of my boys, countless babies, and so many sweet little moments over the years. It felt fitting to bring a little piece of that love along with me.
Over two days, I got to hang out with some of the sweetest, funniest, most expressive little humans around.
Some smiled immediately.
Some made me work for it.
One cried…👀
A few gave me looks that said, “I am not convinced you’re worth smiling at.”
And honestly? Those are usually my favorite ones. 😂
As a former educator, these days felt a little like coming home. It reminded me that photography isn’t always about perfect poses or perfect smiles. Sometimes it’s about making a child feel seen, making a parent smile when they open their gallery, and creating something meaningful out of an ordinary school day.
A huge thank you to Vicky Lynne for referring me to her daughter’s daycare in the first place. Not only did she trust me with photographing her own little one, but she believed I’d be the right person to help capture everyone else’s babies, too. That trust means more than you know. 🤍
I’m also so grateful to the families who signed up, the staff who helped wrangle tiny humans, and everyone who helped make these photo days possible.
Every gallery has already been edited and delivered, and seeing the excitement from parents as they’ve received their photos has been the perfect ending to this little adventure. 📸🐤
