Congratulations to our Photo of the Winter contest winners!!

First Place: Vincent Alban
Jamma Balkum, 8, the son of the late Jamen Balkum, dances while surrounded by friends and family at the 30th birthday celebration for his father in Rochester, N.Y., on Jan. 14, 2023. The past two years since Balkum’s passing, his mother, Michelle Balkum, has through birthday parties to celebrate the legacy of her late son.

Second Place: Josh Boland
Rochester Institute of Technology men’s Javelin thrower Jason Mohr throws a Javelin at the RIT Track in Henrietta, N.Y. on Feb.16, 2023. “I joined track my sophomore year of high school. I was pretty good for a sophomore and was just outside of the top 25 sophomore jav throwers in my state so I realized I could do something big,” Mohr said. “The next 2 summers I would throw and lift every day except sunday without a coach. In college, I still do not have a coach I am all self taught/ ask random throwers on Instagram for feedback. I blew out my elbow in the second meet my first year so I got a medical redshirt. Building back up from that has been frustrating because of how much a ucl sprain limits you. I learn by watching as many videos of great javelin throwers and trying to find things to do to try and match them. My goal is to be the national champion. Last year, even with only 2 meets, I was 33rd in the country. With another 4 years, I have plenty of time to improve and reach that. I apply perseverance to life in general, things aren’t always going to be smooth but as long as you get to the other side that’s what matters. When I am competing I sometimes think about a specific cue in my throw, but other times I just try and clear my mind.”

Third Place: Caroline Sherman
RIT’s Michael Glynn III wrestles his opponent on Jan. 26, 2023 at Clark Gym in Henrietta , NY. RIT Wrestling defeat Oswego 24-10.

Honorable Mention: Evie Linantud
