When it comes to making a solid first impression online, your headshot is the place to start. A good headshot conveys approachability and confidence. It shows you in your best light without looking like AI slop or making you look like an over processed plastic doll. It screams authentic and genuine.

One of my favorite things is to surprise my seniors with a personalized gift. For my friend Colin, I got the idea to create a magazine cover while watching TV one night and have a framed copy of it waiting for him when he arrived to see his photos for the first time. Once I knew it was going to be a magazine cover, which magazine to use was a no-brainer. It had to be SPIN. The next morning I came into the studio, found a photo I thought would make a good "cover photo," processed it with a grungy black-and-white edit, and then designed this cover around it. I printed it on nice Luster paper and popped it into a frame I had kicking around my office. I placed it on a tabletop easel for him to find when he arrived, and let's just say he was very happy with it. He couldn't stop looking at it for a long while and couldn't believe it when I told him it was his to keep. These little moments of happiness are why I love doing what I do. Every senior has a story to tell, and this is one way I get to help tell it.

A big thank you to Samantha Battis and Kevin Sullivan for choosing Studio Two Seven Nine for their new headshots! Samantha serves on the Rochester School Board and Kevin serves on the City Council. They have launched a podcast called Community Conversations to help make sure the public is informed of the happenings in city government.

I don't usually post "sneak peek" photos after a session, but in this instance I'm making an exception to publicly thank both Skeletone Records and Rochester Opera House for allowing me and Colin private access this past Saturday morning for his senior portrait session.

Colin is a gigging musician who lives and breathes music. He plays multiple instruments and is a regular at Skeletone. In addition, he is heavily involved with his school theater program so these locations were important to help tell the story of who he is today, which is what the Senior Portrait Experience is all about.

Exactly.

Where did I go?

It’s been over three years since I last posted here. Life felt demanding with motherhood, school, life....and one day I decided I was done feeding the algorithm.

Am I still a photographer? Absolutely. But I don’t want to create behind-the-scenes videos, reels, or endless content just to convince an algorithm that I’m still creating.

I want to photograph. I want to see light, color, contrast, connection—and bring it all together in a single image. I want to be present in the moment, not constantly recording my process so I can turn it into content afterward.

I am not a content creator. I am a photographer.

So, I’ve quietly kept creating. For my family. For my clients. For myself. For the love of making photographs and preserving those fleeting, beautiful moments that matter.

You may not find many reels here. You probably won’t find much behind-the-scenes content. What you will find are photographs.

My art.
Frozen moments of connection.
Images meant to be held onto for a lifetime.

I create because I love creating. And sometimes, I love sharing what I create.

But I cannot let an algorithm dictate what kind of artist I should be.

I’m a photographer. I create in still images. And that’s enough for me.
