52 Frames - Week 19: Slow shutter speed. I was shooting in the middle of the day and wanted to capture a fountain and slow the water down with a slow shutter speed. This required using a 10x neutral density filter to restrict the amount light entering the lens so that I could slow the shutter speed down. This photo was at a 5 second exposure to make the water more "velvety"!
Saints & Sinners Fountain at Oakland University
The "Saints and Sinners" sculpture, created by Marshall Fredericks, was commissioned by the Josephine S. Gordon Foundation of Detroit and dedicated on October 22, 1976. The sculpture was designed to be a major exterior addition to Oakland University's campus, providing students with an appealing form of art to appreciate while enhancing the picturesque landscape. The sculptures, which are 9 feet 6 inches high and 25 x 50 feet in size, were created over a long period by Fredericks in his studio. The figures are arranged in two rows within an oval fountain basin and are designed to be humorous and balanced, reflecting the elongated form of Gothic jamb statues. The sculptures are not intended to convey a religious or social message but rather to be youthful and relatable to students.
