I specifically went out to a nature preserve near Mille Lacs to find this Blue-spotted salamander (Ambystoma laterale). It was a rainy day so I knew my chances were better than if it were a sunny day. What makes me so fascinated with Salamander's is how they indicate to the health of their surrounding environment - they have thin, semipermeable skin that can unfortunately absorb many undesirables and toxins but if you're lucky enough to see one it means you're in a very healthy part of nature.
