Candid versus posed photos and why you need them both - let’s chat about it 👀

Both are equally important in your wedding gallery.

I truly adore nothing more than a good candid that freezes the frame in time. You want those quiet in-between moments, joyful tears and belly laughs photographed to take you back to the second it happened. They are without a doubt, some of the best photos to tell the story of your day.

But here’s the thing - posed doesn’t mean uncomfortable. My approach as a Virginia wedding photographer is to always have a mix of both in your gallery.

I’m a fly on the wall for the moments that can’t be planned, but I’ll step in with direction when it matters most.

Because sometimes you need guidance to avoid those “what the heck do I do with hands” feelings. The posed portraits are often the ones that get hung on grandmas fridge and posted all over your moms Facebook.

Together, they create a gallery that feels complete and timeless.

Ugh, the amount of love I have for this summer Shenandoah National Park elopement 🥹

The weather brought the fog and rain, but it was no match to Julia + Levi’s overwhelming joy and love for one another.

They said their vows amongst their closest family and friends under the misty peaks of Shenandoah, where the world felt quiet and infinite.

After their intimate ceremony, we ran around the park taking photos at the best overlooks and soaked up that newly married feeling.

In the warmth of their cozy Airbnb, we met back up with all their loved ones to share a meal, stories, and their first dance as a married couple. Profound love filled the space that evening and it was incredible to witness.
