It is with great sadness that we must say goodbye to one of the most iconic red wolves of today. At almost 14 years of age, Moose M1803 made extraordinary contributions to the red wolf species, pushed conservation efforts and ignited a passion in so many people to . It was an honor to work alongside a wolf that led the species closer to it's recovery.
Like many red wolves, his life's journey had many chapters that we had the honor of following. He was a successful and diligent father of four litters - most of their stories were shared on many platforms, giving a new sense of life to this critically endangered species. Moose was often seen playing with and teaching his offspring how to be red wolves. He lived with his last litter of pups up until the end of his life. The decision was made to let him go after being diagnosed with highly aggressive cancer. He did not suffer and left this world with his renowned dignity.
Moose's story will be forever remembered, whether it be as Mighty Moose, Papa Moose, The Grumpster, or Red Grandfather.
