There’s a huge difference between feeling safe and being safe. When we feel safe we don’t think twice about it, we are unaware whether we are or not. When we are safe it’s clear, we know that we are. But when the feeling safety becomes a weekly or maybe even a daily thought, that’s unsettling.

In recent events at my University, Virginia Tech, safety was under attack. Despite the uncomfortable shock and loss of life, we still get out of bed and travel to our same classes on the same campus every day. But that’s what we have to do. Through scary and violent times, no matter the sadness or anxiety, humanity must go forward and that goes for anything that we may experience in our time here.

This has also been a time where many people have struggled with their mental health. So, ask yourself, “Am I mentally safe iand strong?” Because, like we train ourselves physically we have to also train ourselves mentally.
