So many people I talk to tell me they never see bears in Yellowstone. If you're one of those people, write a comment or send me a message and I'll try to help you out.

This grizzly was out with her two cubs early tearing through the dirt and old logs looking for some food.

We saw this grizzly on May 4th in a location frequented by some of the popular nicknamed bears (Raspberry, Snow, Jam). We thought it was Jam. A week later, we saw a grizzly near the Roosevelt area, which is 28 miles from where this photo was taken.

After examining photographs from other photographers and reading posts online, I've determined that these two bears are actually the same bear. And it isn't the bear known as Jam. The clue was a small porcupine quill stuck near the bear's left eye. You can see it clearly in the first photo, and in the photos I took on May 11th, part of the quill is still visible (zoomed in second photo).

This bear shall henceforth be known as Quill as far as I'm concerned. We'll see where it turns up next or if I'll even be able to tell that it is the same bear.

Bear-y adorable and totally rawr-some, meet Jam, the 'paw-sitively' charming grizzly living life on the wild side in Yellowstone! 🐻🌲

And thank you to ChatGPT for the dad joke themed caption. Jam just got kicked out to live on their own which is pretty typical for a 3 year old grizz. Jam is the offspring of the bear nicknamed Raspberry.
