When you're day starts off this way, it can't possibly be bad!!

I had just pulled up to the Beaver Meadow Walkway in Dubois, had barely gotten my camera out of the bag, and this osprey snagged a fish in front of me and took off!

Check out that trout!

A red-winged blackbird was right on his tail, heckling.

The osprey did a few circles around looking for a safe place to land and eat, but it eventually flew off out of view.

You can't get much better than that!

Are you hearing that ethereal flute-like song drifting through the forest on your walks?

You might be listening to this fellow!

Thrush songs are some of the most captivating deep forest melodies and I love hearing them through spring and summer!

I heard lots of hermit thrushes along Little Drummer Trail this week and got a brief look at this one before it darted back into the underbrush.

Palm warblers easily steal the show at Magee Marsh every year!

With their happy tail bob and nice rusty cap, they hop along with a disposition that always seems sunny. They may not be the most sought after species, but they definitely have among the most charismatic personalities!

This little guy was out in the open showing off for a good while, letting me snap a few nice poses while he hunted for insects in the rocks.

Of all the amazing birds I was able to see and photograph at Magee Marsh this month, this fantastic fellow was my "prize" bird.

I had only seen a golden-winged warbler once in my life, on our first visit to the Marsh many years ago, and I wasn't able to catch a photo. This year finally changed that!

This image was not easy to capture!

These birds tend to like thick brush, making them very difficult to spot. They're easiest to find by song, but still difficult to see!

When we first began the hunt, there were perhaps 5 of us looking. By the time we left his thicket, there must've been 50+ people crowded around, hoping for a glance!

This adorable ball of cuteness was responsible for a massive paparazzi following at Magee Marsh in Ohio this month!

Parking lots filled to the brim for a chance to see the rare Kirtland's warbler, a special sight to behold indeed!

So why was this little girl causing such a stir?

Kirland's warblers spent half a decade on the endangered species list due to changes in the pine forests they need for survival.

They have fortunately bounced back enough to become delisted in 2019, but are still considered among the rarest songbird species in North America.

Magee Marsh is the only place I have ever seen one, and I've been fortunate enough to see them on 3 trips there now.

I was glad for another chance to see this year!

Want your spiders and insects under control? Hire a warbler!

In mid-May, these gorgeous, often colorful tiny birds take flight from their winter homes down south and head north to see us! Sometimes we see them on their stop off point on a longer journey, and other times they stay to breed.

In either case, they arrive HUNGRY!

These guys are in constant motion, snatching spiders from webs, caterpillars from the undersides of leaves, ants from branches. Anything small and protein packed is fair game!

Enjoy these snapshots of feeding in motion from Magee Marsh, OH last week!

If your answer was "no", you're in good company!

We found this hen cruising for flower heads at Maumee Bay State Park, OH last week!
