Schriner's Iris Farm absolutely lived up to the hype… but honestly, it was so much more than just iris.

I went expecting rows of flowers, similar to the Wooden Shoe Tulips and Adelman Peonies, and left completely distracted by color, texture, light, tiny details, and hover flies that decided they were the real stars of the show.

Spent a good chunk of the morning crawling around with the macro lens chasing little moments between the blooms. The gardens were stunning, but the tiny worlds tucked inside the flowers may have been my favorite part.

Also confirmed: hover flies are far more cooperative photography subjects than bees.

A few favorites from that morning in Salem.

Dodged a few rain showers with tripod in tow, but it was worth every drop. It was a beautiful morning exploring the Portland Japanese Garden with fellow Nature Photographers of the Pacific Northwest. The fall colors and mist made for perfect moody shots.

Stepped pretty far out of my comfort zone last week and tried something new—photographing the University of Oregon track meet. Fast-paced, full of energy, and totally different from what I usually shoot. A fun challenge with some great results. Check out a few of my favorite shots!

Popped down to the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm Friday afternoon for a meet up with the Nature Photographers of the Pacific NW. First time visiting. Harsh light and way more crowded than I would have liked. So I started playing around with my wide angle lens, some various in camera color presets and creative angles to crop out people.

Dusted off my camera and headed to Woodland to shoot the eagles and sea lions feasting on smelt in the Lewis River on Tuesday but it was so foggy. Made my way over to for the first time in a year or longer. Can’t wait until May 1st when I can get out of the car (limited to shooting from the car during the winter months) and hit the Kiwa Trail.

When you get up early to photograph eagles and sea lions feasting on smelt but the weather isn’t cooperating. At least it’s not cold! Not sure why there’s no sound but I can hear the eagles and sea lions, plus other nearby birds including sand hill
Cranes.

Pretty cool honor! If you find yourself up in Welches stop by the library to see the vintage vehicles I’ve found on the roadsides of Oregon and Washington.

Forget-me-nots in the morning dew. I love how these tiny flowers change color as they bud, bloom and then die.

Title will be “Rusting in Peace”. Don’t have a date yet, but will be sometime later in the year. I’m also, finally, working on a website!
